Team Scout: CBC Jamboree

<p>Prep Hoops Missouri was at CBC on Saturday morning to take in the action at its four-team Jamboree. The four schools in attendance were host CBC, St. Mary's Hazelwood East and John Burroughs. All four teams had productive seasons in 2019. CBC and St. Mary's played for state championships in Class 5 and Class 4, respectively while Hazelwood East and John Burroughs were district runners-up in Class 4.</p> <p>Here is a look at what we witnessed from the four teams at the CBC Jamboree:</p> <h3>CBC</h3> <p>The Cadets will once again be a contender in Class 5 with the return of North Carolina commit Caleb Love and a host of other talented perimeter players. The 6'3" Love is a scorer deluxe who can get a bucket at any time and make a play for a teammate. Love has plenty of support in the backcourt with 5'9" 2022 point guard Rob Martin, who is one of the top young point guards in the state. Versatile 6'3" 2021 Chevalier Brenson who can slash on offense, play stout on defense and play multiple positions while 5'11" 2020 Justin Smith is a quick combo guard who can play defense and penetrate into the lane. A couple of young wings who can really shoot the ball are 6'4" 2022s Larry Hughes, Jr. and Mikhail Abdul-Hamid. 6'6" 2022 Eric Holmes is a developing young post who will be thrown into the fire of a national schedule. He was a factor on the defensive end with his shot blocking.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <h3>Hazelwood East</h3> <p>The Spartans have a very nice group of perimeter players who have been playing varsity basketball together for awhile. Jonathan Brown is a crafty 6'0" 2021 combo guard who can handle the ball and knock down 3-pointers. 6'4" 2020 Jordan Gilmore and 6'2" 2020 Tohrez Simms are scoring threats who are very capable 3-point shooters with size. 2020 guard Chris Rose is a stocky wing player who can get into the lane while the frontcourt trio of 6'4" 2020 Sean Thompson, 6'4" 2021 Jamez Richardson and 6'3" 2022 Terrell Shumpert can be solid role players.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <h3>St. Mary's</h3> <p>The Dragons are without do-it-all Yuri Collins, who is now at Saint Louis University. That was expected. What wasn't expected was the sudden transfer of talented 5'10" 2021 point guard Wunya Brown, who left for Chicago this week. He was an emerging point guard who can score. The Dragons will rally around 6'3" 2020 guard Sofara Rasas, who displayed excellent slashing ability, playmaking skills and some explosive dunks. 2020 point guard Noah Hamilton can really pressure the ball on defense and facilitate on offense with his quickness while 6'6" 2020 Cameron Garrett can shoot it from distance. The Dragons also have some up-and-coming young talent ready to make a contribution.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <h3>John Burroughs</h3> <p>The Bombers were without several key players who are just coming back from a successful football season, plus four-year starting point guard Brandon Miller. The most experienced player on hand was 6'0" 2020 guard Jordan Ryan, an aggressive slashing guard who really looked to attack the basket. A pair of youngsters who really stood out were 6'6" 2022 forward Will Gurley and 5'10" 2022 guard Anand Dharmarajan. Gurley is a skilled combo forward with a nice shooting touch from the perimeter and solid handles. Dharmarajan is a young guard who plays with a lot of confidence with his ability to handle the ball and knock down 3-pointers.</p>
