Until brand new Mountainside High School came about, Tigard and Southridge were neighboring schools with a bit of a rivalry even though they were in different leagues. On Wednesday, we hit both open gym workouts in our campus tour and here's a look at the guys that caught our eye the most.

Steven Long (2020 Tigard)

For the most part, Long picked and chose his spots choosing to play good team basketball. But when the 6-foot-3 senior wanted to get to the basket, he really couldn't be stopped as he used his length and athleticism to finish around the rim. Long's outside shot is the area he focused on a lot this summer and he canned a few threes for good measure. We believe Long is one of the biggest senior sleepers in the state and he should have a breakout year.

Dylan Berg (2020 Tigard)

Offensively it appears that Berg will mostly be a spot-up shooter from three, although in this workout he wasn't quite hitting his shots in the time we watched. But as one of the team's biggest players, he will have to be tough on the defensive glass and he was exactly that. We also noticed that Berg is pretty good about getting the rebound and turning around and firing the long outlet pass.

Malik Brown (2023 Tigard)

We've seen the Brown twins a few times now and we are pretty certain that Malik is the more pure point guard of the two. He's very quick off the dribble and cut through the defense easily, either scoring on his own or kicking it out to open three-point shooters. Brown also showed good court vision in transition throwing passes upcourt. Obviously there will be a lot for him to continue learning as an incoming freshman but surely head coach Shawn Alderman will bring him along slowly.

Kalim Brown (2023 Tigard)

Of the brothers, Kalim showed more of an outside jumper but also handed the ball fairly well. What we have been most impressed with him though is his defense as he's already a lockdown defender. He was constantly playing stick 'em defense and when he wasn't right up against his guy, he was playing the passing lanes getting steals. Brown even blocked a couple of shots underneath the hoop. Both brothers appear as if they will be playing up on varsity.

Jha-Barrie Portis (2021 Southridge)

We only got to see Southridge in shoot-around and drills but we saw enough to see that Portis has tightened up his handle and fine tuned his lefty jumper a bit. The 6-foot-1 junior has also added some muscle to his frame and is still plenty quick. There's no question he'll be counted upon heavily this season.

Sean Pak (2021 Southridge)

Pak is long, lean, and athletic and at 6-foot-5 he's one of the tallest guys on this year's Skyhawks. The lefty shot the ball fairly well from the outside in shootaround but what we most noticed about him in drills was his intensity. Pak was full of energy and enthuasism and we are sure they are hoping that this mentality will spread to his teammates this season.
