Jaylen Singh (Rockvale) gifted the @PrepHoopsTN/AboveTheRimGym Fall Combine with serious bounce and a soft mid-range touch.  He made the Top 40 All-Star Game on the strength of an impressive afternoon.

How did he measure against the competition?

  • Class of 2020
  • PG
  • 6'0"
  • Wingspan -- 6'0"
  • Height w/o shoes -- 6'0"
  • Height w/ -- 6'1"
  • Hand Span -- 9.0"
  • Hand Length -- 7.5"
  • Shoe Size -- 11.5
  • Lane Agility -- 12.46, 12.58
  • Standing Reach -- 7'8"
  • One-step vertical leap -- 34 inches
  • Peak touch -- 10'6"
  • Fall Combine Ranking -- #29
  • All-Star Top 40

Jaylen Singh is set to be a starter for the debuting high school Rockvale High.  Singh transferred from Blackman High after making the excellent BHS varsity his sophomore year.  In fact, Singh was given a minute of action in the Class AAA State Quarterfinal against Memphis East High.

Skill Evaluation

In addition to playing with a nice enough handle, Jaylen is efficient shooting from 10'.  His baseline J is serviceable.  If I am being picky, then the elevation of his feet from the ground could be higher.  Obviously, the higher the release point the more difficult for a defender to alter or block.  I always say this, but it bears repeating.  As you ascend the basketball ladder defenders get taller and bouncier.

The touch of Jaylen's shot is very soft and the ball gets up over the rim with a kindness, a gentleness.

Measurements

Jaylen Singh turns 18 early this season, so he should have the best athletic measurements of the event.  He did very well at the vertical jump and was truly special in the telling Lane Agility Test.  Lane Agility is simply the act of sprinting around the basketball lane (12' x 16' box) with lateral slides at both the baseline and the free throw line.  Singh's was the second best in his 11-person group.  Only Marcus Williams (Clarksville Northeast) registered a faster time.

The hand size is average.  His leaping ability is way above average for a high school hooper.  Extremely explosive off the planks.  Singh's bounce equalled Jaden Davis (Dickson) at 34 inches.
