Recruiting Report: Mitchell Fischer (2020)
The Loyola Dons had a productive 2018-19 season that ended on a high note by making an appearance in the MIAA A Conference Semifinals. Although they ultimately came up short against the eventual champion St. Frances Academy, they still made a statement for not only last season, but also what’s to come.
As we look forward to the Dons’ 2019-20 team success, much of it will be put on the shoulders of senior forward Mitchell Fischer. Fischer put the league on notice last season by consistently causing issues for opponents. At 6-foot-7 with shot making ability from all three levels, he often times creates mismatches in the frontcourt.
The Dons are a team that loved to slow the game down and play in the half court. Their sets rely on passing and cutting, eventually lulling the defense to sleep until they got a lay up or open shot. Fischer has the high IQ to make decisions with the ball as a swing man and keep the offense in motion. He also moves effectively without the ball and establishes position to get easy looks.
This spring/summer, Fischer was a part of a Team Thrill a squad that shocked the UAA Circuit by advancing all the way to the Final Four.
“It was really cool,” Fischer continued, “we just kept winning and winning. Playing against the best players in the country. It didn’t end the way we wanted to, but it was definitely a great experience.”
Fischer, as stated before, was a key cog in Loyola’s success last season. As a result, it helped him get named to the All-MIAA First Team alongside four other highly talented prospects.
“I’m really humble about it,” Fischer told Prep Hoops. “I’m just looking to improve this year. Keep going and keep winning. I improved on my shot making and jumping ability this summer.”
Fischer continued by stating the expectations for the team this year is a MIAA and BCL Championship. As for himself, he’s just focused on playing hard every single game.
His production last season caught the attention of local Division I programs. Army and Navy both offered Fischer while UMBC and a number of Ivy League schools have inquired.
