Prep Hoops Sweet 16: 2nd Team and Honorable Mentions

Prep Hoops Sweet 16: 2nd Team and Honorable Mentions

Below are the prospects who made the 2nd team and the honorable mention list from the Prep Hoops Sweet 16 last weekend.

2nd Team

Zeke Thompkins 6'5 PG 2020 Apollo

Apollo finished the event 3-1 with their only loss being to Peoria. The group was extremely balanced. Thus, this decision was challenging. However, in their consolation game against Planet Athlete, Thompkins was doing it all for the group. He was constantly touching paint which resulted in scoring opportunities for himself and others.

Thompkins is lengthy and explosive. He has good change of pace that makes him shifty as well. Thompkins figures to be a much bigger part of the offensive production of Apollo this upcoming season.

Colin Carey 6'6 SF 2021 Sunrise Mountain

Carey and Sunrise Mountain went 2-2 in the event with Carey continuing to show a lot of promise. He scores the basketball well from all three levels. Further, he is smooth and does not force the issue. His length and understanding of the game make him an intriguing prospect at the next level.

Carey and Mayer will be a huge part of whatever success Sunrise Mountain finds in a loaded region. With that said, these two are as good as anyone in the region. This team has the ability to make a lot of noise this year as Carey looks primed for a huge season.

Kevin Kobara 6'6 SF/PF 2021 Peoria

Kobara is another intriguing prospect. It is hard to list his exact position as he tends to be more of a guard on the offensive side of the ball but has the physical tools and versatility to play an array of spots. Defensively, he tends to be responsible for the opposing big man. As far as 2021 prospects are concerned, he has the potential to be one of the most highly sought after due to the versatile skill set that was just mentioned.

Much like Carey, Kobara's success will largely determine how talented Peoria will be this upcoming season. He is a match-up nightmare that the group will look to use in an array of ways.

Charles Lovett 5'9 PG 2020 Planet Athlete

Lovett cooled down some on the 2nd day. On the 1st day, he was letting it fly from anywhere on the floor and connecting. Planet Athlete led the way for the majority of their game against Ironwood due in large part to the tough shots that he was able to hit over and over again.

Lovett is an undersized guard but his ability to score the basketball from all three levels, including deep threes that almost feel like a fourth level, make him extremely scary to guard. He will seek next level attention due to his scoring abilities.

Logan Crock 6'6 PF 2020 Planet Athlete

Crock was a handful for anyone who played against Planet Athlete this past weekend. He did not play in the last game of the event against Apollo and the impact was definitely felt. He is a versatile four who can shoot the basketball at a high level.

Further, he has good footwork on the block and loved going to the spin move. Crock was one of the tougher match-ups for anyone at the event due to his versatile skill set and build. In addition to being 6'6, he is strong and physical. Defensively, he moved his feet fairly well as well.

Honorable Mentions

Zion Johnson C 6’7 2020 Camelback

Matthew Fan PG 5’10 2020 Scottsdale Christian Academy

Jaden Glass PF 6’6 2020 Ironwood

David Teibo PF 6'4 2020 Ironwood

Nicholas Riley C 6’8 2021 Chandler

Jahon Lethridge SG/CG 6’1 2021 Thunderbird

Ahamed Mohammed CG 5’9 2022 Apollo

Jaylen Glover SG 6’0 2020 Apollo

Isaiah Broady SF 6’6 2021 Chandler

Mekhi Mason PG 6'2 2022 Chandler

Carson Kelly PG 5'9 2020 Chandler
