Pre-Season Player of the Year:
Rickey “RJ” Crawford is one of the top candidates for MVP. RJ looks to lead his team back to District 14 playoff berth. Last year he averaged 11.8 points per game, and help led his team to a 25-12 overall record. He was the only underclassmen to make 1st Team All-District last season. Davon Wright is another top prospect for MVP. Davon was the second leading scorer on his team last year with a 10.7 points per game average. His team was full with Seniors and won District with a 14-2 record and 27-10 overall record. Both prospects helped their teams make it to the 2nd round of the UIL Playoffs.
Team to Beat:
Langham Creek will be the team to beat in the District this year. They play great team ball and really good defensively. RJ Crawford is the returning leading scorer from last years team who went 25-12, and made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs. They will also receive contributions from senior guard Devion Jackson who was awarded All-District 2nd Team last year and averaged 9.8 points per game, pulled down 6 rebounds per game, and shot 59 percent from the field.
Biggest Threat:
On paper Cypress Woods will be a threat and should be a top team in District 14. With junior shooting guard Trevor Passmore leading the way and the returning top scorer from last season where he averaged 13.9 points per game. Expect for Cypress Woods to make a push and clinch a playoff spot. They will also receive good contributions from his fellow junior running mates Damian Watson who was awarded All-District 2nd Team last season where he averaged 7.4 points per game and 4.1 assists per game, and Pierce Matthews who put up 7.8 points per game and grabbed 5.6 rebounds per game.
Sleeper:
Cypress Park High School will be playing their second varsity season, but expect a big run from this team. The Tigers will be anchored by a talented senior class Cameron Jeng who was second team all-district and with newcomer Zechariah Selvage. Plus standout junior AJ Ferguson who also was named second team all-district.
