Prospect Spotlight: Brad Lackey (2020 Union HS)

<p>One of the better kept secrets in Southwest Washington may very well be <strong>Brad Lackey</strong>. The all-around 6-foot, 170-pound guard was a supporting cast member in Union High School's run to the 4A state tournament last season but his role will increase in 2019-20. Lackey spent the spring and summer getting ready and as a result, college programs have taken notice and his recruitment has blossomed as a result.</p> <p>"The summer went really well, both with Union and with the Iron Athletic Sixers program," Lackey said. "We went to Anaheim for the live period and we played pretty well and with Union, our summer league went really well and we only lost three games with our full team."</p> <p>An all-around guard who has a great feel for the game, he played both backcourt positions last season for Union and gave the Titans a great spark off of the bench. But with the graduation of Houston Combs and Ethan Smith, this upcoming year Lackey will move into the starting lineup and specifically to the point guard spot. To that end, that's what he focused on preparing himself for this off-season.</p> <p>"I got used to being a lead guard," Lackey said. "I worked on getting the ball up, getting everyone in place and still being able to score out of that position. They did a good job of letting me do my thing, operate and do my best to get other people involved as well."</p> <p>College programs have been watching Lackey since last season and they followed his progress throughout the summer. He currently lists Chaminade, Concordia, George Fox, Redlands, Lewis-Clark State, and Western Oregon as the schools he's hearing the most from and he's started making some visits. Lackey made a visit to George Fox where he was offered a roster spot, trips to Whitworth and Lewis-Clark State are planned, and more to California could be possible.</p> <p>Overall, Lackey described what he's looking for in a college destination. "I'm looking for a successful program where I can play right away," Lackey said. "I want to be a part of a really good team that will help me get an education too."</p> <p>While Lackey is certainly working through his college recruitment, he's not in any hurry to make any decisions. "I'm not rushing it at all," Lackey said. "We've got a big season in front of us and I want to focus on winning a state championship. We've got big goals for this season so I'm not rushing it and I've got time to make a decision."</p>
