Summer Roundup: Underrated (2021) Prep Hoops takes a look at several of the state’s top performers throughout the spring and summer. 1 —Zach Bloch, 6’0, G, 2021, Bishop Seabury, KC Run GMC Bloch is among the state’s most underrated guards in the 2021 class, armed with not only a dead-eye 3-point shooting stroke, but the ability to handle the ball, create plays for himself and his team as well as the ability to handle the point or run off the ball in a floor spacing role. He is a crafty ball handler who can get to the basket well and is a surprising finisher in traffic. 12 — Michael Cahill, 5’11, PG, 2020, St. James. Team KC Black A nice point guard who handles the pressure on both ends of the floor. He can defend the full length of the floor and is good at forcing turnovers. He is a great passer and is good at getting all of his teammates on the floor looks and touches. 22 — Cougar Downing, 5’11, PG, 2020, Olathe West, KC Pacers Downing has caught the eye of several NCAA Division II coaches as he shows a good feel for the game, the ability to put the ball on the floor and create and an all-around offensive skill set. He can shoot the ball from the outside and gets to the basket well off the dribble. 11 — London Taylor, 6’2, G, 2021, KC Schlage, Team KC Black Taylor is an underrated performer as he shows terrific size, length and athleticism and a well-rounded skill set. He can play on the ball or off, is a creative ball handler with a terrific first step and the ability to get to the basket. He shot the ball well from beyond the 3-point arc in the games we saw him, opening up his dribble drive game even more. 12 — Ty Sides, 5’8, G, 2021, Phillipsburg, Kansas Kings A floor general who takes his time and finds a way to get on the board. He can hit jump shots and is great at knocking down shots from the perimeter. He is a good glue player who helps his team in a collection of ways. He plays hard and makes solid plays.
