Ohio Top 250 Expo Best Guard Performances

<p>When watching guards, I always look for guys that can do more than just score the ball. Players that make the extra pass, don’t force shots, and ultimately make a difference on both ends of the floor are guys that impress me everytime. These 6 guards did just that on Saturday at the Top 250 Expo at Pickerington North High School.</p> <p>Justin Lovette (2021) 6’2 LaSalle</p> <p>Lovette impressed with his size and athletic abilities on Saturday. He has a nice build at 6’2 and is physically imposing for a guard. He was able to get to the rim off the dribble drive and is so strong when he does drive. He will fit in well for the Lancers as they compete in a physical GCL South this upcoming season.</p> <p>Jalen Sullinger (2021) 5’11 Thomas Worthington</p> <p>One of the most impressive ball handlers on display Saturday, Sullinger did a nice job of keeping his head up and looking for open teammates in the half court offense. When he was able to breakdown defenders he was an elite finisher with his left hand. Although I wanted to see him shoot the ball more, he still made an impact on the offensive end.</p> <p>KeAndre Kindell (2021) 5’10 Gamble Montessori</p> <p>Kindrell was an all-around top backcourt performer, especially on the offensive end. A very quick point guard, he was very difficult to contain and even more difficult to keep in front of. Kindell impressed me with his passing abilities as he didn’t just make an impact scoring the ball. Speaking of scoring, he did whatever he wanted on the offensive end, blowing by defenders on the dribble drive and finishing at the rim continuously. He is going to be a player worth watching once high school season starts for Gamble.</p> <p>Tasos Cook (2021) 6’1 Westerville Central</p> <p>Cook was a name I had not heard before Saturday, but man he didn’t disappoint. A pretty solid athlete, he elevated over the rim a few times. What I especially liked what his ability to knock down jump shots off the dribble drive as he did this throughout the day. Cook is going to be a player worth watching out of Central Ohio this upcoming season.</p> <p>Matt Bengel (2020) 6’3 Mercyhurst Prep</p> <p>Bengel excelled in the fast break on Saturday, pushing the tempo and creating scoring opportunities. Offensively he looked comfortable playing in a faster role and seemed to make most of his plays in that role. Defensively, he played well on the perimeter, fighting through dribble handoffs and creating turnovers doing such. Also a solid defensive presence on the perimeter and contained opposing guards.</p> <p>Chris Herbort (2020) 6’2 Beavercreek</p> <p>Herbort continues to impress me with his continued develop from solely a shooting threat to a more offensive developed guard. Offensively, he was showing off an ability to attack off the dribble and also handled pressure on the perimeter well. Defensively, he was scrappy on the perimeter, creating chaos with active hands and beating his opponent to a spot. He has a chance to be a key asset for the Beavers as they start their season in November.</p>
