Phoenix Futures Tournament: Top-11 performers

<p>This weekend myself and Justin "The Show" Vargas ran an incoming freshman AAU tournament at Apollo HS.</p> <p>9 strong teams played 4 games each. 2 in pool play and then 2 in bracket play. Just Us/PHH defeated a tough 2023 Elite team in an exciting finish. Blue Chip Elite and GGB made it to the Final-4. </p> <p>Here were 11 of the top performers from the Top-4 teams: (All incoming freshman) </p> <p><strong>Roosevelt “Tru” Washington SF 6’3 Cesar Chavez (Just Us/Powerhouse Hoops)</strong></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">-Long gifted lefty wing forward who defends. Can shoot it from deep and plays with good physicality. Rebounds at a high level with the quickest second jump in the class. He gets out in the open court and can play above the rim. Good passer, tough player and has a very professional demeanor. </span></p> <p><strong>Mark Brown PG 5’9 Mountain Pointe (Just Us/Powerhouse Hoops)</strong></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">-Currently top guard in the class. He has game-changing quickness and speed. He is powerful with a tight handle and can shoot it better then most of the “top incoming PG’s” usually do. Has the ability to carve up a defense and touch the paint then make his teammates better almost at will. He plays with a good pace and has good body control in traffic. He is another tough player with a thicker build/frame. </span></p> <p><strong>Emery Young SF 6’2 Centennial (Just Us/Powerhouse Hoops)</strong></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">-Forward with the ability to defend almost every position. Great rebounder for position, ball handler and gets downhill. He is a capable perimeter shooter and plays a good physical brand of ball.  </span></p> <p><strong>Andrew Camacho SF 6’0 Peoria (Just Us/Powerhouse Hoops)</strong></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">-Arguably the top passer at the event. Makes the hard passes look easy and plays a controlled game. He shoots the ball well from the 3pt line and changes speeds to get into the lane and get to the rim. Rebounds well as he understands how to box out his opponents. He is super competitive and plays with a high IQ.  </span></p> <p><strong>Davion Butler PG 5’6 Cesar Chavez (Just Us/Powerhouse Hoops)</strong></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">-One of the fastest end to end speed guards at the tourney. He can shoot it from the 3pt line and get into the lane and use the floater. His best skill is his defense. He is a ball hawk on-ball defender with elite lateral quickness. </span></p> <p><strong>Landon Schumaker PF 6’6 Basha (2023 Elite)</strong></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">-Most advanced forward in the class at this stage of his early career. He can handle, pass, shoot it to the 3pt line and scores it with advanced post footwork. He has great hands to catch anything in the post and is a great passer out of a double team. He is very patient player and shows a high IQ for the game. He is a 4-man with 3 skills, which makes him a tough cover. </span></p> <p><strong>Kevin Patton Jr SF 6’4 Mesa (2023 Elite)</strong></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">-Longest kid in the gym has a pretty shooting stroke. He has a lower release and currently lacks strength but defends the 3-5 well. Blocks shots at a high level for a non-post player with his wingspan and great timing. He can cross over his defender and get into the lane and finish. He has one of the highest upsides in the class and it wouldn’t shock me he ended up at the top. </span></p> <p><strong>Aadem Isai CG 6’0 Valley Vista (2023 Elite)</strong></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">-Catch and shoot 3pt gunner. He was one of the most prolific shooters at the tourney and every shot he attempted, you assumed it was going in. He also is an outstanding passer with either hand. He made some incredible passes with his non dominant left hand. </span></p> <p><strong>Arman Madi SF 6’4 Brophy Prep (Blue Chip Elite)</strong></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">-Versatile forward can handle it well, passes it and has deep 3pt range. He also can defend multiple positions from the 3-5. He can take it to the cup with a nice handle and is good in transition to flush it down. </span></p> <p><strong>Jason Fontenet PG 6’1 St. Mary’s (Blue Chip Elite)</strong></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">-Pure PG has good size already and is one of the best passers in the class. He can pull-up off the dribble from mid-range and hit from the 3pt line. He is great in transition scoring through contact with either hand. He uses his speed, handle and mind to get it done.</span></p> <p><strong>Deric English SF 6’2 Mountain Ridge (GGB)</strong></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">-Strongest forward at the tourney also happens to be a star football player. He can shoot it plus use his thick body to get downhill. He handles the ball like a wing and has the strength of a PF to bang inside vs anyone. </span></p>
