The Next Wave 2020/2021: L-Z Evaluations

<p><b>CARROLLTON</b> — The second annual Dallas-Fort Worth-based <em>Next Wave</em> camp hosted by Kellen Buffington was held this past weekend. Here is a report of the players who stood out. Names are listed in alphabetical order by last name: </p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><b><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/jalen-lake/"><span style="color: #ff6600;">Jalen Lake</span></a> 6'3" 2021 Waxahachie (Waxahachie, TX): </b>Lake will be a perfect addition to <em>Waxahachie</em>'s backcourt. He wields an accurate jumper from the perimeter and has the ability to get on a roll and knock down two or three shots in a row before the defense knows what hit it. </p> <p><b><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/jahari-long/"><span style="color: #ff6600;">Jahari Long</span></a> 6'4" 2020 Episcopal (Houston, TX): </b>Three-star guard Jahari Long is as true of a point guard as you will find in the state. He is at his best when<span style="font-size: 1rem;"> breaking down a defense and delivering the ball on time and on target.</span></p> <p><b>Roland McDougal 6'4" 2020 Legacy (Aldine, TX): </b>McDougal had me in awe with his play out in the open floor. He will be extremely effective in an up-tempo system due to his relentless nature and athleticism.</p> <p><b><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/logan-mclaughlin/"><span style="color: #ff6600;">Logan McLaughlin</span></a> 6'1" 2020 Hebron (Carrollton, TX): </b>Playing on a bum ankle, McLaughlin still scored from all three ranges on Saturday during his first couple of games. Whether off the catch or bounce, defenders struggled to keep him from knocking down shots. He fought through the pain and even made a play above the rim in the open floor. </p> <p><b><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/mike-miles/"><span style="color: #ff6600;">Mike Miles</span></a> 6'2" 2020 Lancaster (Lancaster, TX): </b>Three-star Mike Miles got by defenders with ease and was scoring the rock at an efficient rate. He had his fair share of above the rim finishes and wowed the crowd with his under the rim reverse finishes. Miles has recently has trimmed his list down to five schools: <strong>Auburn</strong>, <strong>Butler</strong>, <strong>North Texas</strong>,<strong> Oklahoma State</strong>, and <strong>TCU</strong>.</p> <p><b><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/damon-nicholas/"><span style="color: #ff6600;">Damon Nicholas</span></a> 6'4" 2021 Duncanville (Duncanville, TX): </b>When naming the most consistent players in the state, you cannot forget Damon Nicholas. He is a proven winner who has hoisted both UIL 6A State Championship and Adidas 16U Championship trophies in the last five months.</p> <p><b>Corvin Oprea 6'3" 2021 St. Mark's (Coppell, TX): </b>Oprea looks to have added an inch or two and grown to 6-foot-3 inches tall. He gives <em>St. Mark's</em> another floor-spacing option and is an accurate shooter, especially when he receives a great look off the catch.</p> <p><b><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/jaylin-posey/"><span style="color: #ff6600;">Jaylin Posey</span></a> 6'3" 2020 Grand Prairie (Grand Prairie, TX): </b>Three-star Jaylin Posey played with a chip on his shoulder. The athletic guard possesses terrific length and was giving opponents the business from all three scoring levels.</p> <p><b><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/juan-reyna/"><span style="color: #ff6600;">Juan Reyna</span></a> 6'2" 2021 Antonian  (Cedar Hill, TX): </b>The lefty guard looked to attack more than I ever have seen him previously. He still looked to get to his spots from behind the arc while also showing the willingness to penetrate and draw contact inside.</p> <p><b><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/shannon-robinson/"><span style="color: #ff6600;">Shannon Robinson</span></a> 6'3" 2020 Lamar (Arlington, TX): </b>Robinson is an electrifying athlete who had his pogo stick bounce on display.  His length and athleticism only boosts his attributes on the defensive end. He is an elite above the rim transitional finisher. </p> <p><b><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/chase-ross/"><span style="color: #ff6600;">Chase Ross</span></a> 6'3" 2021 Plano West (Plano, TX): </b>Ross has had a lot of solid showings this summer. I am excited to see the type of season the lefty has as a featured player at <em>Plano West</em>. A bouncy athlete with a decent stroke from long distance. </p> <p><b>Eli Stephens 5'8" 2021 China Springs (China Springs, TX): </b>The shifty guard has excellent speed and quickness with the ball in his hands. He is another proven winner who has a coach's feel for running a team. He puts that "zip" on his passes and has terrific instincts in that department.</p>
