UNCP Elite Camp: Standout Guard Performers

<p><i>The UNCP Elite camp had an impressive amount of talent from across the state, with the majority of the players playing the guard or wing position. Well let’s dive right in with some of the better guard performances that we saw throughout the day, there was plenty of prospects but these select few performed exceptionally well throughout</i>.</p> <p><b>Piedmont Classical 2020 Guard Trent McIntyre</b>: One of the top prospects and performers in the building, he displayed a bit of everything in his game throughout on both ends of the floor. On defense he was constantly applying pressure which allowed him to force some turnovers and get his squad out into transition. Offensively he runs the show well, his head is always up which leads to him making some outstanding passes to teammates for easy buckets. What we like the most about his game offensively is he can score at a high level but picks his time to score the ball which is something that PG’s on the next level always need to be able to do.</p> <p><b>Winston Salem Christian 2020 Guard Arrington Jones</b>: One of the more unselfish players that we got the chance to see at camp, he constantly was looking to get others involved, making the pass even when at times he could have taken his own shot. He doesn’t turn the ball over very often and does a nice job of defending without fouling, solid overall floor general.</p> <p><b>Westover HS 2020 PG Isaiah Bridges</b>: One of the more college-ready guards as far as physique and intangibles go, as he clearly spends a high amount of time in the weight room and bring the vocal leadership as a PG. He’s constantly talking on the court, looking to make the correct play, defends well and can score it in multiple ways as he has a much improved jump shot.</p> <p><b>Apex HS 2020 Guard Jayden Beloti</b>: One of the top performers on the day overall, he was dominant scoring the ball with just about everybody he was matched up with. Whether it was scoring off the dribble in half court setting or getting out into transition for fast break buckets, it seemed like every time we turned our heads to see him play, he was scoring. This doesn’t come as a huge surprise as he had a very successful spring and summer play with Garner Road against some high level comp as well.</p> <p><b>Cleveland HS 2021 Guard Walter Ghaffar</b>: He was part of the state championship squad at Fayetteville Academy last season but will be moving forward at a new school this year in what should be an increased role for him as well. You can tell that he’s been working on his game quite a bit as he played very well from start to finish. Athletic plays and knocking down the trey ball with efficiency is what you will get from Walter, he flourishes in up-tempo style games and is one that will be on more radars before it’s all said and done.</p> <p><b>Ben L Smith HS 2020 Guard Khalid Hinds</b>: Very impressive showing from him throughout, he has a wide variety of moves he uses to beat his man off the dribble and doesn’t get turned over very often. His scoring ability wasn’t also on display as he converted some tough buckets inside the paint over bigger players and thru contact.</p>
