Recruiting Report: Omari Salvi (2020)

Omari Salvi impressed throughout the summer with both his high school team and grassroots club. As a result, the 6-foot-5 forward was nominated as a local "most improved" candidate last week. Salvi outlined his overall game, his role at Bullis for the upcoming season, his expanding recruitment and much more during a recent interview with Prep Hoops.

PH: For those who haven't seen you play, how would you describe your overall game?

OS: "For those who haven’t seen me play, a word to describe my game is versatile. I’m pretty much a jack-of-all-trades and will go out and battle in whatever position is needed."

PH: What's something you do on the court that won't show up on the stat sheet?

OS: "Something that will not show up on the stat sheet is being a big hustle guy. Diving for loose balls, saving balls from going out of bounds, anything to get my team another possession. Also being a great teammate. Picking guys up when they take a fall and being a teammate who is uplifting on and off the court. Words of encouragement go a long way, and I know that sometimes a coach getting on you is the last thing you wanna hear after a mistake. So making sure I encourage them and assuring them that they will make the better play next time."

PH: Explain your role for the upcoming high school season..

OS: "Being the fact that I am a veteran guy on the team, coach will look to me to be a strong leader. Also being a lockdown defender on defense. Being able to guard 1-5 on the court, and on the offensive end scoring the ball with no hesitation because that will help us win."

PH: Who is recruiting you?

OS: "My recruiting has really opened up after this AAU season. I currently have really high interest from Navy, Georgia State, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Mount St. Mary’s, and University of New Hampshire."

PH: Which schools have you visited? Which schools do you want to visit?

OS: "I have taken unofficial visits to Navy and The Mount. I definitely want to visit Georgia State and Corpus Christi before summer is over."

PH: What factors are you considering when looking at schools?

OS: "Some important factors in my college selection would be how strong the academics are, coaching style, and location. I wanna go somewhere where I can fit in and be embraced by a welcoming community. And coaching is a big deal because I want a coach who genuinely cares about me and not just what I can do for him on the court. I think that is some of the reason why so many guys have entered the transfer portal after this following college season."

PH: What are your goals?

OS: "Short-term goals would have to be to get stronger and bulking up because its a huge plus all-around. Another goal is to do well on the SAT’s. Intermediate goals would be to land some good offers. Also to do well this upcoming season and remain healthy. Long-term would be to make it to the highest level possible with basketball whether that is overseas or in the NBA."

PH: What can you bring to a college program?

OS: My hardworking ethics, eagerness to learn, and my versatility.
