Tuesday and Wednesday myself and Justin Vargas put on the 3rd annual Southwest Basketball Camp at the Phhacility in Phx, AZ.

Many highly competitive games including the All-Star games.

Here were some more of the standout youngsters from AZ:

2022

[player_tooltip player_id="826994" first="Adrame" last="Diongue"] PF 6’9 180 Chaparral

-The most naturally gifted post player was the Senegal born rising soph Diongue. He has advanced post footwork at a young age and can easily counter off if he gets stopped. He has easy bounce, great length, quick feet and blocks and rebounds everything in his area. He scores mostly in the post and gets off the ground quickly to dunk the ball. Once he fills in his body, he will even be more of a problem to deal with.

[player_tooltip player_id="701246" first="Nathan" last="Calmese"] PG 6’1 150 Mesquite

-Fast rising soph seems to get better by the month. He is very athletic and was one of the best passers at the camp. He has a quick first step to get into the lane then makes plays. Once he is close to the basket he nearly dunks the ball but lays it in above the rim with a finger roll. He also can shoot it from deep and pull-up from mid-range. His shot gets a little flat at times but he should make a big leap with his game this next year,.

[player_tooltip player_id="701253" first="Damarion" last="Pouncil"] C 6’6 170 South Mountain

-Long and athletic post player was one of the better shot blockers of the camp. He has super quick springs and flies in the open court. He dunks the ball easily but needs to make strides with his overall offense.

[player_tooltip player_id="827025" first="Pike" last="Tancil"] SG 6’1 170 Willow Canyon

-A thick downhill scorer likes to get physical in the paint and seeks contact. He can also pull-up and hit from mid-range and the 3pt line. He could get a little quicker but is tough, strong and skilled.

[player_tooltip player_id="827026" first="Marcus" last="Coleman"] SG 5’11 165 Pueblo

-Another thick downhill scoring guard is very strong. Once he gets a step on his defender, he uses his thick build to score it through contact. He can improve his perimeter shooting and get quicker/lean out some.

[player_tooltip player_id="1033048" first="Xavier" last="Santacasa"] PG 5’7 140 Valley Vista

-Cerebral pure PG with good quickness. The lefty can shoot it from deep plus is quick to get passed his defenders. He uses his skill and mind to get the job done. He needs to get stronger in the next few years but has a lot of moxie and game.

2023

[player_tooltip player_id="814521" first="Aadem" last="Isai"] PG 6’0 153 Valley Vista

-Son of Coach Isai will be a good one. His older sister is already known for being one of the best talents in the state. He has a high IQ and understands the game like a son of a coach would. He sees the court well but it’s his shooting that stands out. He got hot in the Non-Senior All-Star game and rattled off 4 3’s in a row. He has decent size already and is projected near 6’4. He makes good reads and despite not being a burner yet, he doesn’t turn the ball over.

[player_tooltip player_id="814512" first="Terrell" last="Doxie"] SF 5’11 144 Valley Vista

-Long freshman scorer is an active player. He makes catch 3’s and can get downhill but will need to get a tighter handle in traffic moving forward. Competes hard on defense and him and Isai plus others form an impressive freshman core.

[player_tooltip player_id="814519" first="Matthew" last="Henry-Harrison"] SG 5’9 162 Buckeye

-Thick young guard who can score it. Fearless to take the ball to the basket among the trees. Fights hard to rebound the ball and has a nice burst to get into the lane. The bigger he gets as he gets older will make the game the easier and easier for him.
