I was able to take in games from the Grind Region Finals, and they were great, for sure.
Opening night teams, players and coaches certainly got after it.
Hoopers:
• Da’Monn Sanders ll (6’0” / G 2022 / Team Buddy Buckets): Sanders is an impressive prospect that got after it Friday. Works on defense, moves his feet, gets back. Has good instincts to read the pass and create deflections, also. Has the ability to finish in traffic.
• Ronald Holmes (6’4” / WF 2021 / Beast Elite 17U): Holmes plays bigger than his size, and can hold his own with about any matchup. Carries a workhorse mentality that really benefits him and his team. Tough on the boards, snatching anything he can. Also, where a lot of his points come as put backs. Strong frame that works well inside, also.
• Elia Watkins (6’6” / F 2020 / 1Ten Badketball-Whitaker): Watkins plays the middle primarily, as the team’s big. A strong rebounder that has long arms, first to the ball. Has an abundance of post moves that work well for his game, also. Gets up and down the court quickly. And, has the ability to step out and guard the arc.
• Keon Thompson (6’4” / W 2020 / 1Ten Basketball): Keon possesses a quick first step, that allows him to get ahead of the defender. Finishes baseline well. Also, took what the defense would give him, in the later of scoring. Thompson has the ability to handle the ball just fine. However, Keon is also a tough defender that turned it up at times.
• Chris Harris Jr (5’11” / PG 2020 / Houston Raptors-Benjamin): Chris was easily the best ball handler I watched on Friday night. Got to his spots with poise, and was a solid decision maker. Craftiness through the lane, finishes through contact. Also, got around the contact at times. Willing shooter, too, that can get it done.
