With the end of July arriving so too has the end of the 2019 summer basketball season. However, there are still some really good tournaments left to play. One in particular is the Prep Hoops Grind Region Finals, in Wichita, Kansas. Several Houston area teams have geared up and headed that way for one last summer run. Let’s take a look at some of these teams and some of their prospects.

Beast Elite

Beast Elite is a team full of young talent. Led by great guard play, this team plays good defense and can really shoot the ball. Three of the guards to keep an eye on is Ronald Holmes (class of 2021), Jeremiah Richardson and Angelo Stutts (both class of 2020). All three are capable of shooting the deep ball and can really defend the perimeter.

TSK

TSK has some really skilled and athletic players. Their backcourt is tremendous with the likes of Lewis Hughes and Tre Landry (both 2020). Malik Whitaker (2019) is a great contrast to their lead guards making them fun to watch. They stretch the floor with solid perimeter shooting and take advantage of creases in the defense.

Texas Takeover Elite Ned

If you are looking for bigs, Texas Takeover Elite Ned has them. 6’10 John Shanu II (2020) and 6’9 Ja Robertson (2020) bolsters a frontcourt that already has a few 6’7 players. To compliment the low post play, Elijah Elliot and Cam Clardy are two strong lead guards. This team hangs their hat on the defensive end but can score the ball as well.

Texas Takeover Elite Kemp

https://twitter.com/4YFilms/status/1150608577947566080?s=19

Texas Takeover Elite Kemp has proven that age is nothing but a number all summer. With all 2021 players on the roster, this team has played up and had good results. This is a true pick your poison type of team. If you do not crowd the three point line, Chas Kelly, Jake Arnold and Marion Williams will make you pay. And if you do, players like Dylan Mackey and Jasaud Andrews will make you pay by getting to the rim.

Houston Raptors Benjamin

https://twitter.com/_Houstonraptors/status/1146431046050832384?s=19

The Houston Raptors Benjamin is a super scrappy bunch. Every player on the court plays defense the full 94 feet and DJ Stewart (2020) causes absolute havoc with his quick hands. Jordan Ivy-Curry (2020) supplies a lot of the scoring. But Ethan Yancy (2020) will definitely help shoulder some of the scoring load because he can flat out fill it up.

Houston Live

Houston Live has some experienced guard play which helps keep their team in favorable situations. With big guards like D’erice Ulmer (2019), Joseph Moore (2019) and Noah Lattin (2019), this team is not easily flustered or beaten. Their length and athleticism makes them a solid defensive team on the perimeter. And they have enough skilled players to match their defense with a potent offense.

Texas Takeover Elite Myron

Texas Takeover Elite Myron is comprised of a lot of players that can shoot the ball from deep. But not to be outdone, big Malachi Bingham (2020) is a huge presence inside. This is a run and gun team with shooters like JJ Crawford (2019) who is also a lock down defender. High energy guys like Kendrick Robertson (2019) that can contribute in multiples ways helps bolster the roster. And oh yeah…Spud (Christyon Eugene – signed)!!!
