West Bloomfield Lakers: Summer Recap

<p>West Bloomfield coach <strong>Jeremy Denha</strong> is no stranger when it comes to the summer grind of prep hoops.  Coach Denha will be entering his 10th season for the West Bloomfield Lakers varsity squad.  The Lakers have had an eventful summer league slate including the Derrick Coleman Elite summer league,  Wayne State summer league, and a 1 day camp at University of Michigan and a weekend camp at Oakland University. </p> <p>Coach Denha knows how important the summer is to his squad.  He is always stressing to the league directors of summer league to put his team against the best competition.  Coach Denha believes mixing it up with the best competition not only leads to individual development, but team growth also.  Denha stated; "We had 6 sophomores on the varsity team last year, and we have our senior contributors coming back, along with a strong incoming class as well. I am really excited what the future holds for our group."</p> <p>Denha also praised his assistant coaches <strong>Jon Abrahams</strong> and <strong>Rawle Marshall</strong> with saying; "That is one of the biggest takeaways of the summer is having those two guys around in this program that I can really trust and they have really done a good job with the guys".  The coaches split morning workouts and afternoon workouts to make sure the boys are getting shots up and working on their games. "We have had a nice commitment in these morning workouts, the guys are getting up and getting in the gym at 6:50am and just getting that individual work in. This is the time basketball players get better, it's not just about the games it's about getting in the gym.”</p> <p>Listed below are 3 guys who stood out this summer for the West Bloomfield squad:</p> <p><strong>West Bloomfield Lakers Summer Standouts:</strong></p> <p><strong>Shamar Mathews (2020)</strong>: Mathews is a 6'1 Senior who has been a core player for West Bloomfield since he was a sophomore.  Combo guard with a great leadership skills.  He has had a productive summer getting stronger, faster and cutting down on his turnovers during summer league.  Look for Shamar to be a good senior presence and have a nice senior campaign.  He will be a big part of the Lakers success this upcoming season.</p> <p><strong>Jaylen Adams (2021)</strong>: Adams is 6'4 wing who can guard multiple positions.  He has had a great summer shooting the basketball.  Guards with great intensity and great length.  Uses his 6'4 height to his advantage when guarding the post as well.  Jaylen is a tireless worker, in the gym everyday. One of the core guys on this West Bloomfield squad.  Jaylen plays AAU ball with <strong>Southfield Tranzition</strong>.</p> <p><strong>Ryan Hurst (2023): </strong>Hurst is the most intriguing prospect in this class for West Bloomfield.  Ryan stands at 6'2 and is not your typical freshmen.  He can guard any position on the floor and he can "get buckets".  Tough minded can do it all prospect.  Very crafty in his skill set and is always in the gym working on his game.  Look for Ryan to have a great freshmen year and be a player talked about on the prep circuit for the next 4 years.  Ryan plays AAU ball for <strong>The Family</strong>.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
