BigShots Myrtle Beach Live: Biggest Takeaways, Part 1

Day 1 of BigShots Myrtle Beach Live got off without a hitch in an event full of college coaches. Here's a look at the biggest takeaways so far.

Kaden Metheny is a big time player

Kaden Metheny walked away from Day 1 with two offers, one from Rhode Island and another from Niagra. He had quite the day, putting up a tournament-high 45 points in a comeback victory with nine made 3-pointers. He averaged 36.0 points per game on the opening day and made a division-best 13 3-pointers.

K.J. McClurg walked away with his first Division 1 offer from head coach Patrick Beilein and Niagra University. He was the second-leading scorer for BigShots Elite West Virginia, putting up 20.5 points per contest. He can play above the rim and also knock it down from behind the arc. It won't be a surprise if him and Metheny were a package deal at the next level.

Nick Farrar drew quite the crowd of college coaches

Big man Nick Farrar came in with offers from Texas A&M and LSU over the past few days, showing off his abilities on the hardwood. With Nolan Dorsey, Jeremiah Baker and Jake Bertolini-Felice in tow, Farrar and BigShots Elite NC went 2-0 on the opening day with wins over the Dallas Seawolves and Greensboro Warriors Unsigned Seniors.

Dorsey’s ability as a high-level defender and playmaker earned him an offer from Niagra. He’s also got offers recently from Air Force and Rider. Bertolini-Felice is a player who continues to impress with his development. He scored 20 points in the opening game of the weekend. Don’t be surprised if he generates some offers after the July live period.

BigShots Elite Georgia have tons of talent

Chris Youngblood is already off the board to Kennesaw State, but Brandon Stroud, Kirshon Thrash, Raesean Frederick and Eric Grier are a few other prospects due for some more Division 1 looks. Stroud and Frederick are two players that really set the tone from tipoff for their squad. Thrash and Grier get it done on the boards and on the interior. With a 36-1 record on the spring/summer season, BigShots Elite Georgia is another squad that had the court surrounded with college coaches on Day 1.

Stroud is a three level scorer with the size and strength to back it up. Thrash feeds off Stroud and whatever he misses, Thrash is always there to clean it up. Frederick can play out of his mind as well by putting the ball on the floor and getting to the rim. 6-foot-8 forward Eric Grier stepped up big with a number of big dunks.

Sleepers all over the place

Thailand Elder of the Dallas Seawolves had quite the day for his squad, although they went 0-2 on the day. Elder posted efforts of 23 and 31 points, consecutively, while making a total of nine 3-poiinters for his squad. Elder is an athletic combo guard that really asserts himself when he’s on the floor. He’s a competitor and a gritty defender when he’s on the floor. Don’t be surprised if he comes away with some offers after the weekend.

Noah Dunn is bouncing back from an ACL injury but he still managed to put up 23.0 points per game and did a solid job of drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line. He’s drawing interest from Akron and Lincoln Memorial. He’s a burden to bear on the interior and can also stroke it from behind the arc.

Bradley Dean, a Gate City native, is another prospect due to earn some offers. He's already drawn interest UNC-Asheville, UMBC and Lehigh and earned an offer from UVA-Wise. He can fill it up in a hurry from all three levels and is a sharpshooter you don't want to leave open. He made six 3-pointers and averaged 16.0 points per game on Day 1.

Jay Moore and Robertas Jonaitis were two other prospects that turned heads with their ability to attack the basket and play above the rim. Moore had a number of big dunks that got the crowd off their feet. WV Mpact pulled off an upset over the Dallas Seawolves, thanks to 33 points from Moore and 22 points from Jonaitis. Both players pose a threat on the wing and had college coaches buzzing before the end of the day.
