June Team Camp Tour: My First Look At…..

The Prep Hoops Missouri June Team Camp Tour took me to 15 different team camps, shootouts and showcase events around the state of Missouri. During my travels around the Show-Me State, I still manage to see a group of kids for the first time in person. Here are some of those players who I got a first look at during the month of June:

Ryan Dabney 6'5" Milan ('20): Saw the Class 2 All-State performer at the Monroe City Shootout and was impressed with his all-around post game and ability to handle and pass the ball. He has a big, solid body which he uses well in the post with excellent footwork and a shooting touch with both hands. He handles the ball well and drops dimes to open teammates. He's also a excellent prospect on the football field.

Riley Naeger 6'7" St. Pius ('20): I got my first look at Riley at the University of Central Missouri Shootout and he was excellent with his all-around play. He showcased very good passing ability as he located open cutters in his team's flex offense. He is also a versatile scorer in the low post and off drives from the high post. He will also hit 15 footers off the catch. The lefty is strong and plays an aggressive game.

Kian Scroggins 6'7" Raymore-Peculiar ('20): I finally got my first look at Kian at last weekend's Midwest Basketball Showcase in Liberty and he was very productive with his high motor and effort. He was a constant presence on the boards at both ends and he could really finish around the basket with baby hooks and dunks. The lefty can also step out and make a perimeter jumper when he's left open.

Anias Futrell-Yahwah 6'4" McCluer ('21): A home-school student who is now at McCluer, Futrell-Yahwah looked very good at the UMSL Shootout and he will be a good addition to the Comets. He is a versatile athlete who can slash to the basket to score and also get the job done in the transition game.

Hunter Shaw 6'4" Milan ('20): An athletic combo forward who had some very explosive, wow-type plays at the Monroe City Shootout. One in particular came when he made a baseline drive and threw down a tomahawk dunk in traffic. He is solid on the drive and he is also a big factor on the defensive end with his athleticism and length, especially on the top of a zone press.

Bryce Jenkins 5'10" Harrisonville ('20): Watched him at the Central Missouri Team Camp, where I saw him showcase his slick handles and ability to create offense off the dribble. He has deep shooting range and has the confidence to let it go from anywhere. He is also good at getting to the mid-range and creating with a number of escape moves.

Matt Martin 6'5" Windsor ('20): A solid post player who is back in action after not playing last season. He was very impressive at the Hillsboro Summer League last week with his ability to score in the paint with solid moves and a very good touch. His mobility was good and his shooting range extended out to 15 feet.

Josh Kilpatrick 6'5" Grain Valley ('20): A big lefty wing player who spent much of his time on the perimeter when I watched him at the UCM Shootout in Warrensburg. He was very accurate with his high-arching shot from 3-point range plus he could get into the lane and display some nice runners and floaters.

Lucas Morrison 6'8" Salem ('21): A big wide-body post player who really caught my eye at the COMO Shootout in Columbia. He was able to use his big body inside with a variety of big-boys move inside where he simply moved defenders without much resistance. I also liked his shooting touch around the basket as well his as his good free throw shooting.

Michael Henneberry 6'5" Lafayette ('21): A long and thin athlete who played very well at last week's IAABO Team Camp at Francis Howell Central. He played with a high motor as he constantly ran the court and scored many transition buckets. He was never in the same place for long and he added good ball handling ability and a nice feel for the game to get things done.
