FABC Fort Lauderdale: Day 2 Top Performers

<p>The first of two three-day FABC Camps in June is being held this weekend in Broward County. Next weekend the action moves to the other side of the state in Bradenton.</p> <p>High school teams from throughout the state are competing at Archbishop McCarthy, Chaminade-Madonna, McArthur, North Broward Prep, St. Thomas Aquinas, South Plantation and Taravella. Saturday, I posted up at North Broward Prep, where it had two gyms going and 14 games total. Here are Saturday's top performers:</p> <h4>Christian Shaneyfelt (2020), Bradenton Lakewood Ranch</h4> <p>In what might have been the game of the day, the 6-foot-6 Shaneyfelt took a beautiful pass from 2020 guard <strong>Keon Buckley</strong> on a double backdoor to score the game-winner in a 58-57 victory over Coral Springs Charter. CSC had one final shot, but rising senior <strong>Ian Tajalli</strong>'s 3-pointer bounced off the front of the rim at the horn. Tajalli had given Charter a 57-56 lead on a 3 with 20.6 seconds to play. Head coach <strong>Jeremy Schiller</strong> describes Shaneyfelt as a "Swiss Army knife" because he is so versatile. North Florida, Canisius and Rollins College have offered. Buckley, by the way, just took an unofficial to West Point.</p> <h4>Luke Lecroy (2020), Lakewood Ranch</h4> <p>The 6-6 Lecroy and Shaneyfelt each had 13 points in the victory over Coral Springs Charter. Lecroy, who takes the ball to the basket really well, also had 10 in a W over Miami Belen Jesuit. He was slowed last year by a broken arm. Schiller said FGCU and Bethune-Cookman have started to show interest. "I think we have a chance to be really, really good," said Schiller, whose squad lost to Pompano Beach Blanche Ely in the 8A state championship game in March. "We just have a lot of work to do still. We have to be better defensively. We have to be better consistently being focused to start games."</p> <h4>Yussif Basa-Ama (2020), Boca St. Andrew's</h4> <p>The 6-9 St. Andrew's big knocked home 19 points in another game that went to the wire -- a 57-55 Scots victory over Hialeah Champagnat. 2020 <strong>Jack May</strong> grabbed a miss free throw for a layup late to seal the verdict. Basa-Ama is a force in the paint at both ends. He plans to take a visit to West Virginia this fall. Champagnat came up just short twice, also falling to Fort Myers High, 59-58. <strong>Melvin Diaz</strong> (2020, wing), <strong>Anthony Salazar</strong> (2022, wing) and <strong>Caleb Alic</strong> (2020, guard) all played well for Champagnat, which was without <strong>Julio Rodriguez</strong> (recent San Diego offer).</p> <h4>Thaddeus Squire (2021), Stranahan</h4> <p>The 6-5 Boyd Anderson transfer gives Stranahan coach <strong>Terrence Williams</strong> yet another weapon. Williams already brings back most of the starting lineup off the 6A state champions and Squire allows the rotation to get even deeper along with Ely transfer <strong>Jayden Fye</strong>. "Thaddeus brings everything," Williams said. "Off the ball offense and defense ... on the ball offense and defense. Awareness of the court and just the whole basketball IQ. It will be a nice combination with him and <strong>Inady [Legiste]</strong> high-low post." </p> <h4>MK Ashmore (2021) &amp; Dominick Denny (2020), North Broward Prep</h4> <p>The 6-6 Ashmore scored 19 points, 10  and 21 points in NBP's 3-0 start.
