Under the Radar/”New” Prospects With Game

One of the great things about Prep Hoops is the fact we cover players of all levels, not just the high major Division 1 prospects that are easy to spot out and break down. This allows for me to really find some diamonds in the rough that will be able to impact a college program, whether it is at the Division 1 level or on down to D3, NAIA D2, etc. I have been able to spot a lot of new players, just in the last couple months and I find it appropriate to highlight some of these prospects that will be in our updated rankings that will release near August. This is definitely a gumbo mixture of talent and ages, but they were previously under the radar kids that have some game!

2020 6'8 C Kyson Rose (Kamiakin HS) - I spotted this big man at the Franklin Quaker Slam and walked away impressed with his strength, soft touch and communication on the floor. He would be suitable for the D2 or D3 level, but some low/mid major D1 may latch on with proper development and exposure.

2020 6'6 SF Lezjaun Harris (Mount Tahoma HS) - Super sleeper prospect that is on the back end of a 5 inch growth spurt. He is barely scracthing the surface and would benefit from a prep year or couple years of junior college, but the potential is there. His father played Division 1 basketball and is very active in the Tacoma semi-pro scene.

2020 5'9 G Jaden Call (Stadium HS) - Jaden has been a solid player for some time, but just slipped through the cracks of our coverage. He has taken his game to another level this spring and early summer and proven to be one of the better guards in the greater Tacoma area. He is aggressive and tough as nails. He is not the lanky, tall guard we all fall in love with so often, but he brings productivity.

2020 6'3 G Kai Johnson (Olympia HS) - Super skilled guard that finds a way to get his own shot off pretty well. He is not physically imposing, but he makes up for it with basketball IQ and his skill set. High school teammate Jackson Grant gets a lot of the attention, but Kai is going to be a steady perimeter presence for the team and find his way to some level in college.

2021 6'6 SF Messiah Jones (Kamiakin HS) - Another player I spotted at the Quaker Slam that really has some serious potential. He has a solid frame and moves very well up and down the floor. He brings a bit of an inside-out presence and how much more he grows will determine what level he may get recruited at. He is also a good football prospect, but he has not leaned one way or another as of yet. *Feature image

2022 6'5 SF Dakota Joseph (Mariner HS) - Mariner has not been an often talked about program by any means and Dakota did not make Rotary's 15u EYBL team, but he really outplayed a lot of those players chosen over him in the game versus Garfield. Dakota is a big time hustler and shows some potential with his skill set. If he continues to grow taller, he could be a sleeper D1 prospect down the road.

2022 6'4 SF Eddie Hulet (Seattle Academy) - The jury is still out on Eddie as far as what level of a prospect he will end up, but he showed some glimpses this summer of being able to put it all together someday. He has some athleticism that caught me off guard when he went up for the throw down one game and he has solid length. He needs to get stronger and keep working on his all around game, but he is a sleeper for now!

Be on the lookout for each of these players to be in our database when the new rankings drop! There will be over 15 new prospects in each class added.
