Players to watch
With the June high school camp season underway, Prep Hoops takes a look at several players poised for a breakout season in 2019-20. Among them is St. Thomas Aquinas wing player Isaiah Gavin, who figures to be a key player in this year’s rotation.
Other players to watch are Sylvester Union, a strong, quick guard, who makes his mark at the defensive end, as well as Braedyn Meyer, Christian Ryckman and Austin Murrow.
Below are some of the state’s players to keep your eyes on in the 2020 class.
Isaiah Gavin, 6’5, G/F, St. Thomas Aquinas
Also a football standout who is drawing eyes from Division I programs, Gavin has great height and a long wingspan and is able to impact a game at both ends of the floor. He also has great athleticism and runs the floor well and is great at passing the ball in transition or taking it for himself.he does a lot of the dirty work on the floor and can clean up plays and score consistently around the basket.
Sylvester Union, 5’11, G, Olathe North, Marcus Denmon Select
A name to know this summer. Union is a 5’11 guard who can create openings for himself and for his teammates. He plays smart with the ball and doesn’t make many mistakes. He can shoot when he’s open and looks to pass and get the ball to the open man.
Braedyn Meyer, 6’2, G/F, Olathe North
a player who could be asked to play guard or a forward position, and he’ll do it well. Meyer plays bigger than his listed height and looks to block shots forced turnovers and likes to score near the basket and shoot when he has the look.
Christian Ryckman, 6’5, F, Blue Valley Southwest
A nice player with good size who can get hot from distance. He has a high release and can knock down shots when he’s off-balance as well. He plays hard and enjoys passing and can play physical on the defensive end as well.
Austin Murrow, 6’4, F, Blue Valley Southwest
Murrow is a good scorer, both inside and out. he isn’t afraid to put his head down and drive to the basket. He can pull up around the free throw line and knocked down jumpers and he can also pass out to an open teammate on the three-point line. He has good size good speed and a nice work ethic
