Sam Thompson 6’9″ LHBA: The talented big from Francis Howell was on the court in live action for the first time since March when he injured his shoulder in the state tournament semifinals. He an imposing figure in the post with his size and ability to score with both hands around the basket. He can also step out and knock down a perimeter jumper as well. I was also impressed with his passing ability out of the double team to open shooters.
Jared Gerdes 6’7″ MoKan 2021: A very solid combo forward from Summit Christian who can get it done from the low post and the perimeter. He displayed a nice shooting touch from 3-point range, especially from the corner where he was very effective. He did a good job of keeping the ball up inside and getting buckets with good fundamentals.
Jason Jones 6’5″ Yanders Law: A versatile forward from Nixa who helped lead his team to the 16U championship game. He could score around the basket and was especially good on the drive against opposing bigs. He was also an excellent ball handler and passer, which came in handy when he was used against pressure defense. He battles in the post and can rebound well.
Elijah Corner 6’5″ Team KC Black: The bouncy forward from Ruskin got a lot done with his athleticism and high energy at both ends of the court. His offensive game is still a work in progress, but he made a lot of plays with his rebounding and shot blocking ability. He had some impressive rim runs on offense and chase down blocks on defense.
Eli Wingert 6’7″ Team YOBO: A solid young big from Blue Springs who provided good size in the paint with his rebounding and ability to score around the basket. He has good hands and did a nice job of catching the ball in traffic and converting easy buckets.
