HYATTSVILLE, MD – The BSN Summer League Playoffs resumed on Friday at DeMatha with the final 4, and Vantage Hoops was on hand to check out the action. Below is a rundown of some of the top performers from Saturday afternoon. Stay tuned for continuous coverage throughout the playoffs. PG Tre Wood | St. John’s 2018 Tre Wood finished tied for the team lead in scoring, totaling 18 points vs. DeMatha. Using his crafty handles along with his super explosive first step, Wood was able to get into into the lane at will and consistently create. He hit a couple of threes off the bounce, and finished with both hands around the rim. Wood has an extra gear that not many can match. CG Reese Mona | St. John’s 2017 Reese Mona scored 18 points vs. DeMatha. He hit several three pointers from the catch, and did a good job attacking the basket where he finished efficiently with touch. Mona demonstrated his trademark hustle on Saturday. He recorded a highlight chase-down block for his team. He also took charges, and did a good job setting up his teammates for easy looks. SG Marvin Price | DeMatha 2019 Marvin Price showed off his ability to fill it up in a hurry on Saturday. He finished with 17 points in a win vs. St. John’s. The 6-foot-4 lefty is a very good 3 point shooter from the catch. From there, he does a good job utilizing head fakes and ball fakes to create space and attack closeouts. Price is a very good finisher in traffic, and can also use his right. He also has good vision and passing skills. PF Curtis Mitchell | Georgetown Prep 2017 Curtis Mitchell was impactful on both ends of the court for Prep. He scored 20 points in their win vs. Bishop McNamara. The 6-foot-8 power forward showed the ability to step out and hit the 3 ball. He connected on two shots from long range, and did a good job finishing around the basket in traffic. Mitchell sets good screens, makes himself available when he rolls, and has great hands. Defensively, he’s very good as a result of his lateral quickness and length. Mitchell effectively hedges screens. He’s a good shot blocker as a result of his timing and quick leaping ability. PF Makhi Mitchell | Bishop McNamara 2019 Makhi Mitchell turned in another productive performance for Bishop McNamara. He recorded 19 points vs. Georgetown Prep. Mitchell showed strength when finishing through contact in the paint. He flashed a nice skill set, and comfort when handling the ball in the open court. Mitchell is a very good passer out of the low and high post. He sets big screens, makes himself available for dump offs, makes strong rim runs, and crashes the offensive and defensive glass with purpose.
