As an underclassman, the 6’1” point guard for Dayton Dunbar and Ohio Nova has drawn interest from many of the state’s top Division I programs.
“Wright State, OU, Northern Kentucky, UD. And that’s about it. Wright State did offer me … I’m keeping my options open,” Baker said.
Those options should continue to expand. Not only is he a defensive hound and relentless on the dribble drive, Baker also carries a 3.5 GPA.
The immensity of his recruitment has just began, as this summer has been a busy one for him.
“I’ve been going to shoot-outs … I went to a camp in Florida. Took a little unofficial visit to OU [on June 28]. Went to the UD camp with the Dunbar team … Went to the Wright State camp also,” Baker said.
He’s enjoying the early stages of the process. Baker has noticed that there are a few particular aspects of his offensive game to improve upon.
“Probably in the post, like little guards guarding me, probably post moves. And a little bit on the jump shot, 3-point.”
On both offense and defense, an up-tempo pressuring style of play would suit Baker best. But, again, it’s way too early in the process to narrow down the scope of his potential landing spots whatsoever.
Given the high-level talent at Dunbar and OH Nova, which includes the large role Baker will play individually, we should expect him to have opportunities to showcase that in-your-face style over the next few seasons.
Prep Hoops will continue to provide coverage of DeVon Baker’s recruitment going forward. You can follow us @PrepHoopsOH on Twitter. We hope to provide a follow-up Recruiting Report on Baker, as well.
