Prospect Spotlight: Jamal Litt (2020)
Davenport North junior Jamal Litt was turning heads last weekend in Omaha for Prep Hoops’ Hard Work Kickoff, and has the whole summer ahead to continue and build buzz.
It’s his defense that he prides himself on, but his ability to attack the rim is certainly a plus for his Iowa Mavericks 17u squad.
“I pride myself on defense, honestly, so I’m a good on-ball defender and I can fill the passing lane. Offensively, I’m good at attacking the basket and I see the floor OK,” said Litt, a 6’1 guard.
“Some things I need to improve on is my jump-shot and making reads off screens on the offensive end. Finding better ways to find my teammates, better passing, but mostly jump-shooting, off the dribble and catch.”
With Davenport North last season, the junior averaged 7.0 points on 49% shooting, also three rebounds per game.
“I feel like I was a great vocal leader, make sure everybody was in their spots,” said Litt. “I had to work without the ball, and off the ball a lot.”
Now, he’s well into his offseason with Iowa Mavericks 17u-Cleveland this season, that’s the program’s top squad. Last season he played with the Mavs’ second unit.
“Some goals I have for myself are to get my recruitment up, honestly; any recruitment would be a blessing,” said Litt. “And then win ball games as a team, honestly.”
Recruitment: “A lot of NAIA schools have shown interest, but I haven’t received any offers or anything like that. I get a lot of mail.”
