The recent update shows the the class expanding from a top 50 to a top 60. This class possess a healthy crop of talent on the perimeter and on the block. The sky is the limit for this group. Take a look at some things to know for the latest update:
Top Dog: There is one player that stands out the most in the 2021 class, and that is JD Davison. This kid is athletic and special. JD created a social media frenzy with his between the legs transition dunk. With his athleticism and ability to play on/off the ball, JD is going to be hard to knock off the No. 1 spot.
Perimeter Size: The 2021 class features some very talented perimeter players that have really good positional size. The top 30 features 14 perimeter players that are 6’3 and above. Some notable names are Keshawn Murphy (6’7), Riley Leonard (6’4), Jailyn Murray (6’7), Brandon Howard (6’4), and Jordan Chatman (6’4)
Multi-positional Players: College coaches love when players have the skill set and athleticism to play multiple spots on the court. The top 60 is full of players from top to bottom that have this capability. Guys like JD Davison, GaQuincy McKinstry, Kaleb Brown, Tre Roberson, Landon Williams, Taye Fields, and Roc Taylor are notable players that can play all over the court.
Small Point Guards: The 2021 class may feature some talent/size on the perimeter, but the class also has some smaller guys that can flat out play. It’s not about the size of the dog, but the fight in the dog. Shout out to the 6ft and under crew: CJ Burns, Cameron Silmon, Jarvis Moss, Brandon Green, Bo Barber, Lane McCay, Jacob Comer, Quandre Burroughs, and Chad Chambers.
The Bigs: This group lacks true depth right now. This doesn’t mean the positional group lacks talent, but the bigs are top heavy right now. Everyone knows about Trinity Bell, Bryson Hall, PJ Eason, Landon Williams, and Kendall Maddox. Here are a couple other bigs that could rise over the summer: Zeke Spann and Lee Hunter.
Breakout Players to Watch: Look for this group of players to have breakout grassroots season. These are guys that are poised to take it to the next level: Brandon Howard (Alabama Celtics), Braden Ray (Nike Elite Stars), Brandon Green (Nike Elite Stars), Payton Allen (Auburn Raptors), Bo Barber (Hawks Elite), Jamon Reed (Alabama Celtics), and Brad Lewis (Team Carroll)
