Prospect Spotlight: Garfield Turner (2020)

<p>Listed at 6-foot-7 with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, 17-year old District Basketball Club forward <strong>Garfield Turner</strong> has easily been one of the biggest winners and stock risers of the early part of this spring. He pridefully anchored a traditionally aggressive DBC defense this past weekend at Spooky Nook, where we decided to take a couple of minutes to get to know him better.</p> <p><strong>PH</strong>: <em>What's your playing background?</em></p> <p><strong>GT</strong>: "My first AAU team was called Damascus. It wasn't competitive. Then I went to Lakeland Middle School. Then I transferred to Covenant Life my eighth grade year. It's a little private school in Gaithersburg, Maryland."</p> <p><strong>PH</strong>: <em>For those who haven't seen you play, how would you describe your overall game?</em></p> <p><strong>GT</strong>: "I'm going to give you all I got. I'm going to help alter shots, and I'm going to be a presence down low."</p> <p><strong>PH</strong>: <em>How would you evaluate your team's performances so far in this tournament?</em></p> <p><strong>GT</strong>: "This is our first real tournament. Most of us are new to each other, so we've just been bonding and working hard."</p> <p><strong>PH</strong>: <em>How do you define your role on this team?</em></p> <p><strong>GT</strong>: "I call myself a leader. Like I said, I'm going to hustle and give everything I've got." </p> <p><strong>PH</strong>: <em>What's the most improved part of your game in recent months?</em></p> <p><strong>GT</strong>: "Probably my physicality, and my hustle."</p> <p><strong>PH</strong>: <em>How'd you improve your physicality?</em></p> <p><strong>GT</strong>: "Just getting in the gym."</p> <p><strong>PH</strong>: <em>What's an underrated part of your overall game?</em></p> <p><strong>GT</strong>: "Just my hustle, and my presence overall."</p> <p><strong>PH</strong>: <em>What are you working on?</em></p> <p><strong>GT</strong>: "Right now, my shooting and ball-handling."</p> <p><strong>PH</strong>: <em>What's your GPA?</em></p> <p><strong>GT</strong>: "Cumulative is a 3.0, and right now a 3.2."</p> <p><strong>PH</strong>: <em>Who do you model your game after?</em></p> <p><strong>GT</strong>: "I just pick and choose parts I like from everyone's game."</p> <p><strong>PH</strong>: <em>What are your goals?</em></p> <p><strong>GT</strong>: "To play professionally."</p> <p><strong>PH</strong>: <em>What do you think you can bring to a college program?</em></p> <p><strong>GT</strong>: "Hustle. I'm going to work hard, and I'm going to be a presence down low."</p>
