Prospect Spotlight: Mekhi Carter (2021)
Archer sophomore Mekhi Carter currently checks in as a top-75 prospect in Georgia’s Class of 2021, and will be player to keep a close eye on the next two seasons.
The 6-foot guard considers himself to be a true point guard, and says that defensive tenacity is a specialty of his, too.
“I think I’m a pass-first point guard who is a good on ball defender, and I’m great at finding teammates or scoring the ball if needed,” said Carter, who mentioned some areas he’ll be looking to improve ahead of his junior season.
“The number one thing I need to improve is consistently making 3s and pull-ups while also just continuing to learn the game and making the correct read. I’m definitely going to have to develop physically but that is why I lift and workout throughout the week.”
With his sophomore season now behind him, Carter now shifts his focus to an offseason training regiment. He was a defensive stopper for the Tigers this season, and will look to solidify his jumper this spring and summer.
“My role was to come into the game and be a pest on defense and run the offense that coach wanted. He made sure I guarded 94-feet and didn’t let the opposing point guard be comfortable,” said Carter.
“This summer, I’m going to be in the gym a lot with my trainer, Kai Wells, just working on improving the little things and getting a consistent jumper so that next school season I can take on a new role of leading my team.”
A terrific student, Carter says that although his recruitment has yet to start up, he’s confident that over the course of the next two seasons, he’ll find a tight college hoops fit.
“I’m trying my best not to worry too much about offers and just really focusing on getting better,” said Carter. “I have a 4.0 GPA, so if I can match that with good talent then I’m confident I can go to school for free.”
