Team Preview: PSB Elite 2020

Sim Frazier has put together another really nice 17U group for PSB Elite. He has capitalized on the wealth of talent in the Charlotte area, as well as picking up a few out of state prospects. This team will be watched by a wide variety of programs and should have coaches lined up in masses for their games this spring and summer. I got to take a look at the team recently at Cox Mill and saw some good things.

To start, PSB’s 2020 squad will have Davidson Day teammates Jackson Threadgill and CJ Huntley. Both already have multiple MM offers and haven’t shown signs of slowing down. Threadgill is an elite shooter with size at 6’6” and is a respectable athlete. He is really competitive and makes good decisions with the ball in his hands as well. Huntley has loads of upside with his soft touch and ability to move at 6’9”. If he’s active consistently he’ll be able to show off his tools that coaches will love.

PSB also has a pair of Concord First Assembly teammates in Garrett Hien and Ambaka Le Gregam. Hien saw his stock rise steadily throughout the high school season, resulting in interest from schools like Davidson, Wofford, and others. He contributes in a variety of areas as a forward, has solid athleticism, and plays with a great motor. Le Gregam just joined the team the other day and was not present at the workout I attended, but he’ll provide PSB with another guard that has good size at 6’4”.

The other in-state players that PSB will feature are Kennedy Miles (Williams), Tyler McKinney (Asheville Christian), Jefferson Boaz (East Surry), and Ben Beeker (Hendersonville). Miles and Boaz were not at the workout either but I have seen both in the past. Miles is a quick PG who makes a lot happen off of penetration and can hurt you from deep. He was with the 2020 team last year also and built chemistry with Threadgill and Huntley. Boaz is a big-bodied forward at 6’7” and 230 lbs; he plays football as well. His versatility at his size is impressive. He uses his body inside, is capable of handling the ball and making decisions in transition, and will stretch the defense. McKinney is a guard who can play on or off the ball. He has a sturdy frame and is best when he uses his strength and speed to attack the paint. Beeker, an unsigned senior, has drawn interest from numerous D1 programs who will evaluate him further this spring. He’s a physical forward who rebounds and protects the rim well. Beeker can do a little bit of everything on offense and is a tremendous student.

PSB’s out-of-state players include BJ Marable and Jayden Doyle from Tennessee, and Luke Champion from Georgia. The workout was my first time seeing both Marable and Doyle. Marable is a physical specimen who can overpower opponents with his strength. He is a powerful athlete who plays through contact inside and can step out to the wing and get to the basket on straight-line drives. Doyle is a smooth, thin guard with length and effortless athleticism. He stands around 6’4” and had some impressive moments at the workout; he should be a tough matchup for most guards. Champion comes to PSB from Lambert High in Georgia, where he has made a reputation as a 3-point specialist. He has great size at about 6’7” and is extremely confident as a shooter. Champion already has offers from Georgia State and Longwood, while also being tracked by a host of other programs.
