Prospect Update: Sam Kilburg (2020)
As a junior with state-qualifier North Scott, Sam Kilburg once again proved that he’s one of Iowa’s more steady guards.
The 5-foot-11 combo-guard helped guide the Lancers to state this season while averaging 7.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and a team-best 2.8 assists per game.
“My playing style has changed a little bit since last year, I look for my shot a lot more. But for the most part, I like to get downhill, and create shots for myself and others,” said Kilburg, who said defending and leadership were areas of emphasis for his this winter.
“My junior season was great, we had great teammates and everyone was unselfish. My role was to guard one of the best guards on the opposing team; we as a team emphasize defense first. My job on both ends of the floor was to be a leader on the court.”
This summer, Kilburg will again play with the Iowa Barnstormers, he’s been with the program his whole career, this will be his 17U season.
“This upcoming spring and summer is going to be fun,” said Kilburg. “I’m just excited to go out there and play with all my teammates and compete at a high level.”
With 17U ball, typically comes some ramped-up exposure, especially for Barnstormers guys, who will play on the adidas Gauntlet again this spring and summer. Kilburg is hoping to gain some more substance to his recruitment.
“(Recruitment) hasn’t been anything major, a few letters and I’ve been invited to some camps, but not a lot of substance to all of it,” said Kilburg.
“My recruitment goal for the summer is to get noticed a little more. I’m hoping to impress some D2 and NAIA type schools with my play with the Barnstormers this spring and summer.”
