Recruiting Report: Christian Schach (2018)

2018 guard <strong>Christian Schach</strong> is moving to Tampa Prep after spending his first two high school seasons at Steinbrenner. The 6'1", 185-pounder says he's excited to play for accomplished head coach Joe Fenlon. He watched a good amount of Tampa Prep games this past season. Schach called last year at Steinbrenner tough for him personally. "I felt we had a pretty good team that could have accomplished much more than we did, but for some reason, certain things did not click. I learned patience and humility; regardless if I had a good or bad game to get back in the gym and work on things that I can control and need to improve on to help the team be successful. How would he break down his own game? "I believe I am a pretty good shooter with a high basketball IQ. I'm a player that puts the team first and cares about my team's success more than individual accolades. I can handle the ball and I am a very humble and unselfish player who hits timely shots. For things I would like to get better at, I would like to have more of an attack mindset and to not be as passive. I know at the higher level I will be a point guard and shooting guard so every day I work on my skills, quickness, and defense because I know defense wins games and that it keeps you on the floor." He plays AAU ball for coach John Arroyo and the Skils Center Elite. "I couldn't ask for a better team. We all get along so well and our team chemistry is great. We consider ourselves a family and respect one another. We're considered a local team but we've competed at high levels and made an impact. A few weeks ago we beat two teams sponsored by shoe companies. I'm looking forward to this summer because we're going to Dallas the first week in July, then to Atlanta for the next two weeks during the live periods." In terms of Schach's move to Tampa Prep he said he's heard so many great things from previous players that he knows well including North Dakota State commit Tyson Ward and current SCE teammate and rising junior Trey Sibert. With no offers or interest just yet, Schach is determined to change that this season. He has a crafty shot and hustles on the defensive end of the floor. Look for Division-II and Division-III teams to start to give him looks simply because he's a player who will give it his all.
