4A First Round

4A First Round
Facebook
X (Formerly Twitter)

One of the best things about 4A is that the 1st round is hosted by the higher seed. It makes for a great environment as teams look to invade the home teams gymnasium. This year 4A tournament is more loaded than you think. There are two favorites but there are no easy roads to the final. We have a lot of talented shooters across the 4A classification. The # 1 seeds are: Orem, Pine View, Juan Diego, Green Canyon. Orem and Juan Diego went undefeated in region play. Green Canyon and Pine View had a more competitive region and suffered a few losses. Here is a look at the matchups.

#2 Bonneville vs. #3 Logan

Bonneville and Logan are similar teams when you look at their roster. Bonneville has activated a few of their JV shooters due to injury which will benefit them in the long run. Logan has battled against a region that shoots a lot of 3's, so they will be ready. Size wise they are similar. Bonneville will have home court advantage they also beat Logan by 2 earlier this year. We give Bonneville the advantage.

Players to watch:

Bonneville

5'10 SG Zach Alspaugh

6'5 F Hank Bushell

Logan

6'7 C Josh Jensen

5'9 PG Anthony McCade

#1 Pine View vs. #4 Salem Hills

Salem Hills enters the tournament as defending State Champions. Salem Hills went 0-5 to start the season. Salem plays a lot of players but they're not the team they were last year. Pine View lost a lot of close games. Look for them to be a tough out this year.

Players to Watch:

Pine View

6'3 G Michael Moore

6'0 G Jared Sudweeks

Salem Hills

6'2 CG David Jones

6'1 G Carson Petersen

#1 Orem vs. #4 Canyon View

Orem is one of the favorites to win it all this year. They have a handful of players that can play both ways. Orem played one of the tougher schedules this year in all of 4A. Canyon View played their last 4 games very well but they might not have enough to stop Orem.

Players to Watch:

Orem

5'9 PG Taft Mitchell

6'3 G Puka Nacua

I6'4 F ke Richards

6'6 W Shem Johnson

Canyon View

6'0 G Parker Holmes

6'2 G Trevor Farrow

6'0 G Mason Lyman

#2 Bear River vs. #3 Tooele

Bear River started the year on fire but then had a uncharacteristic loss to Judge Memorial. Earlier this year Bear River beat Tooele by 30 plus. Don't count Tooele out yet. Tooele is currently on a 4 game winning streak.

Players to Watch:

Tooele

6'5 F Justin Rodgers

6'2 G Joshua Wilkins

Bear River

6'0 G Ben Fonnesbeck

6'0 G Mark Huber

#2 Payson vs. #3 Hurricane

Payson is a good #2 seed. This is a team that can surprise teams as they have athletic ability, shooting and they play hard. Hurricane will have a tough time in this game.

Players to Watch:

Hurricane

5'10 G Bryce Thomas

Payson

6'5 W Logan Sorensen

#1 Green Canyon vs. #4 Stansbury

Green Canyon has been one of those teams that can beat anyone because they all shoot the 3 ball so well. Stansbury has there share of shooters but they will have their hands full. Stansbury suffered a 15 point loss to Green Canyon earlier this year.

Players to Watch:

Green Canyon

6'0 SG Carter Berish

6'2 G Dewey Panter

Stansbury

6'0 G Peyton Thevenot

#1 Juan Diego vs. #4 Sky View

Any person not paying attention might think that JD would win this easily. That is not the case as Sky View is the best 4 seed in the tournament. Juan Diego will have a big home court advantage. Sky View has a pair of players that will be trouble.

Players to Watch:

Sky View

6'5 G Mason Falselev

6'6 F Sam Phipps

Juan Diego

6'4 G Rai Tiniauari

6'0 PG Talon Valdes

6'1 SG Lawson Roe

#2 Dixie vs. #3 Lehi

This game is up in the air as it can go both ways. Both team have played well throughout the season. Lehi going al the way to Dixie will be rough on their legs.

Dixie

6'4 F Hayden Cottle

Lehi

6'2 G Kevin Windsor
