Here are 5 Takeaways from Palm Beach Lakes:
All alone in first
Fittingly, the game went to overtime, with Forest Hill prevailing, 93-85, to run its record to 16-0 overall and 4-0 in the district.
In league play, coach Tony Watson‘s Falcons have beaten Boynton Beach, Olympic Heights, West Boca Raton and Lakes. They still have to face Royal Palm Beach and Dwyer.
“You can’t ask for a better game if you like sports,” Watson said. “This is the type of game you want to see. This is the type of game you want to be in. Credit to Palm Beach Lakes — they did a good job. I want to thank our guys. They kept their heads high and they played good team basketball.”
PB Lakes falls to 9-1 and 5-1. The Rams have beaten West Boca, Dwyer, Royal Palm Beach and Boynton Beach.
The overtime
Forest Hill scored the first 10 points in the extra period to take command. Six-foot-3 senior Torrin Andrews started the run with an old-fashioned three-point play.
2019 reserve Nick Whittick then canned a 3, just his second basket of the game.
Whittick would add another deuce off of a layup and Andrews completed the run with two free throws.
Circus shot sends it to OT
The game was tied 76-all at the end of regulation.
Andrews made a circus shot with under 10 seconds to play to tie it. It didn’t appear like he could even see the basket when he put the ball up.
“I just felt like it was time to do whatever I had to do to win,” Andrews said of the game-tying shot in the clutch. “So I went in there to try and get a rebound for my team and it happened. It just happened to go in.”
20 for Daniels, Miller
2020 guard D’ante Daniels and 6-5 senior Tylor Miller led Forest Hill offensively with 20 points apiece. Daniels connected on three 3-pointers. Andrews finished with 18.
6-7 2020 Giancarlo Rosado led PB Lakes with 27 points. Rosado had nine field goals and made eight free throws.
“He had a pretty good summer and then he’s a decent academic kid,” Lakes coach Lorenzo Hands said of Rosado. “He’s drawing quite a bit of interest now.”
Senior guard Sheldon Edwards added 23 points and senior Eldridge Franklin had 14.
Falcons are deep
Watson uses a lot of players. Eleven different players scored for Forest Hill vs. Lakes.
Tuesday marked the eighth times this season the Falcons have scored at least 90 points. Forest Hill also put up at least 90 on Palm Beach Gardens, Benjamin, Boynton Beach, Park Vista, Olympic Heights, Elite Academy and West Boca.
