Prospect Spotlight: Jospin Mugisha (2020 Century HS)

He's been largely off the radar since he hasn't played in a while due to injury. But Jospin Mugisha is making up for lost time this season. The athletic 6-foot, 175-pound junior guard is healthy again and has been starting to put up some serious numbers as Century High School is looking to find a groove and challenge for a Pacific League title. "We've just been playing a team," Mugisha said. "We've been putting a lot of work in, moving the ball, getting everybody involved is the way to win. That's what we've been doing, playing a lot of energy and moving the ball. I've been coming back from an ACL injury and I'm trying to find my rhythm - I know I can play at this level. So I'm just trying to maintain it and make it consistent so we can get wins." In Friday's win over McMinnville, Mugisha flashed a great shot from three, hitting 5-for-7 from distance. He's an athletic guard who is active on both ends and along with his shot, he feels other parts of his game have been going well too. "I feel like attacking the basket is going good for me," Mugisha said. "I need to slow myself down sometimes on those charges but I feel like I can still attack the rim and get to the basket whenever I want." Since he was out due to that ACL tear, Mugisha hasn't gotten the opportunity to play in front of many college coaches. But only a junior, he's got plenty of time to make an impression - not only this season but during the spring and summer with his AAU team, Oregon Basketball Club. With that said, the stellar student/athlete is keeping all his options open. "For college, I'm just looking for the best opportunity for me in terms of school and with basketball," Mugisha said. "I'm a straight A student - school is really important to me so I want to find a school that I can balance both - where I can play basketball but still focused on school." For now, his focus is on the rest of this season. Century has started off 2-0 in the brand new Pacific League and Mugisha is confident about what's ahead. "I think we've just got to keep the energy up," Mugisha said. "I feel like if we continue to trust each other and continue to play like that, we can go as far as we want."
