Lincoln Prep is located on the campus of Grambling State University and held a four team shoot-out which consisted of the home team Lincoln Prep squaring off against Calvary Baptist followed by Wossman and Red River game. All four teams had some key players that are currently ranked pretty high in the state or should possibly be ranked in the state. Lincoln Prep got a 8 point victory over a well-coached and relentless Calvary team with the score of 60-52. Calvary would not give up and tried to make a comeback, but the Panthers of Lincoln Prep proved to be too much and ended up taking the victory at the end. The second game featured Wossman vs. Red River. This game was back and forth through all quarters, but it was Red River that came out on top with the 59-50 victory over Wossman. Here’s a breakdown below of the key players from each team.
Top Performers
Lincoln Prep
Chanse Robinson- Robinson showed why he’s being considered as one of the best players in the state as well as in the nation. This was my first time watching him play and he plays with so much passion and attitude. He has an inside out game but loves to attack the rim with authority and is successful in most cases. Robinson finished the game with 24 points,11 rebounds,5 assist and 3 steals. What a PLAYER!!!
Treun Ford- Ford displayed great shooting ability from behind the arch but what stood-out about Ford was his toughness on defense. He didn’t back down from guarding Calvary’s best player. His defense was very impressive. By doing all of these things, he had able to finish with 16 points and 3 steals.
Calvary Baptist
D’Marcus Hall- I haven’t seen Hall on the floor since AAU with (Louisiana Millsap) and him not being able to play due to the transfer rule, but the kid didn’t look as though he has been away from high school basketball. Hall ran the floor well, grabbed rebounds, altered a few shots, and finished with the game high 18 points,7 rebounds
Ben Ponder- Ponder also plays for the (Lousiana Millsap) team and I can tell the coaches over there at Calvary has been hard at work in the weight room. Ponder has gotten bigger and a more well-defined game. I believe Coach Morris over at Calvary has a good sophomore player in Ponder as he finished the game with 11 points,6 rebounds. I’ll definitely keep an eye on him throughout the rest the high school and AAU season.
Wossman
Nick Traylor- Traylor played as though he had a chip on his shoulder the entire game. He came out the gates early and set the tone for the Wildcats by connecting down low and then from mid-range. Even though the Wildcats came up short, Traylor was probably the best all-around player on the floor as he finished with almost a double-double. 23 points, 9 rebounds. Well done!
Rayshun Robinson- Robinson finished with 11 points due to early foul trouble. However, he was effective while being on the floor as he stretched the Bulldogs defense which led to Wossman success in the paint!
Red River
Jessie Davis- Davis has been playing well since last year around district time and it has carried over into this year as well. He’s one of the top big men up north and as well as the state. This weekend Davis altered/blocked shots, rebounded the ball very well, and found his outside shooters for the knock down and to free him up on the interior. Davis struggled from the free-throw line and because of it, he only finished with 14 points. Surprisingly, he still managed to finish with a double-double when he grabbed 11 rebounds.
Honorary Key Performers– L.Spinks (Wossman), D.Austin (Wossman), E.McDonald (Red River), K.Bradley (Red River), R. Hill (Calvary Baptist) and M. Payne(Lincoln Prep)
