Top Players of the Week

Top Players of the Week

Each week, there are new names appearing on my list for top players of the week, and that’s no surprise, because the state of Tennessee has a lot of talent.

And a bulk of that talent is coming out of Memphis.

As always, I try to find new names to add each week, and again, I was able to discover some new names. This week’s list features four new names and a lot of familiar ones.

Here are my Top Players of the Week:

Kennedy Chandler, Briarcrest: This sophomore point guard affects the game on both ends of the court. In a tightly close win against Christian Brothers Friday night, Chandler finished with 11 points, seven steals, and five assists.

Chandler Lawson, Wooddale: The senior forward posted 39 points in a 98-73 win Tuesday night over Sheffield. Is it too early to start putting Lawson as one of the top candidates for Mr. Basketball? I don’t think so. He’s been on a tear all season long.

Johnathan Lawson, Wooddale: The sophomore forward posted 17 points against Sheffield. What makes Lawson special is the fact that he play multiple positions on the floor. The Cardinals are able to space the floor with Chandler and Johnathan Lawson and guard Johnathan Duncan, who posted 12 points in the win.

Brandon Brown, White Station: The city of Memphis isn’t talking about this senior guard. He’s been carrying the Spartans on his back this season. Right now, White Station is 11-9, and it’s because of Brown. He had 35 points against Memphis East, 34 against Memphis Central, and 15 Saturday night against Germantown. Brown probably would’ve finished with another 30-point performance if his coach, Jesus Patino, wouldn’t have pulled him early in the third quarter.

Davon Barnes, White Station: The sophomore wing had 14 points against the Germantown Red Devils.

James Wiseman, Memphis East: The Memphis commit had 30 points in the Mustangs’ 66-63 win over White Station. He added 27 points, 13 rebounds, four blocks, and three steals in a 91-56 win over Overton.

Malcolm Dandridge, Memphis East: The senior forward posted 15 points, 12 rebounds, five steals, and four blocks against the Overton Wolverines.

Andrew Anderson, Tipton-Rosemark Academy: The South Alabama commit scored 28 of his 33 points in the fourth quarter of a 66-61 win over FACS Tuesday night.

Zander Yates, Houston: The sophomore forward had 24 points in the Mustangs’ 65-50 win over Ridgeway Tuesday night. Yates converted on four 3s.

Chandler Jackson, Christian Brothers: The freshman point guard had 27 points in the Purple Wave’s 72-70 win over FCA Tuesday night. Jackson had 13 points and three assists in the 45-42 loss to Briarcrest.

Reese McMullen, Christian Brothers: McMullen had 15 points against FCA.

Antavion Collum, Bartlett: The Ole Miss commit posted 17 points, six rebounds, four blocks, three assists, and two steals in a lop-sided win against Kingsbury in less than three quarters of action. Collum had 17 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and two blocks in three quarters in a win over Arlington.

Wynne Brown Jr., Bartlett: The senior point guard posted 13 points, five assists, and three rebounds in the win over the Kingsbury Falcons. Brown Jr., then, had 10 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals in the win over the Arlington Tigers.

Dontae Horne, Kirby: Here’s another kid many people in Memphis aren’t talking about. Horne is easily scoring in double figures every game for the Cougars. He had 19 points in a 33-32 loss to Collierville.

Calvin Temple, Center Hill: The senior point guard had 27 points and five assists in the Mustangs’ 77-67 win over Columbus this week.

Kevin Henry, Center Hill: Henry had 14 points and 12 rebounds in the win over the Columbus Falcons.

Jordan Rawls, Hamilton Heights: Rawls had 27 points and six assists in the Hawks’ 90-60 win over Athens Prep Academy. He had 26 points and six assists in an 81-61 win over Legacy Carter.

Bayron Matos, Hamilton Heights: The Mississippi State commit had 21 points and 13 rebounds against Athens Prep Academy and 21 points and 16 rebounds against Legacy Carter.

Quintavious Bailey, Raleigh-Egypt: The junior forward scored nine of his game-high 21 points in the third quarter to help the Pharaohs defeat Hamilton, 69-48, Monday night.

Deovaunta Williams, Raleigh-Egypt: The senior point guard posted 14 points in his team’s win over the Hamilton Wildcats. Williams scored six points off dunks.

Cory Griggs, Raleigh-Egypt: Griggs posted 13 points against Hamilton.
