Freshmen Making an Immediate Impact

<p>Over the last two weeks we have taken a look at players in each class who have raised their stock at this early point in the season. With the freshman class, we're going to look at some of the players who are making a big impact early on this season.</p> <ul> <li><strong>Justin Becker, Robertson County - </strong>The 6'5 Becker is off to a hot start for a 7-2 Robertson team. Averaging 16.2 points and 7.8 rebounds, Justin is making a huge impact as a second scoring option next to Alex Schlach. He's shooting 61% from the field even though he has struggled a little from behind the three point line where he has shown the ability to stretch the floor before.</li> <li><strong>Kendric Adams, Trigg County - </strong>Averaging 14 points and 8 rebounds for a very young Trigg team, Kendric is making his case to be the best freshman in Western Kentucky.  Adams is a bruising wing forward who can put his head down and get to the rim or take his defender to the block and get a bucket. He still has to improve as a perimeter shooter but Kendric is off to a great start.</li> <li><strong>Aden Slone, Boyle County - </strong>One of the best freshman point guards in the state, Slone is off to a strong start as he's been thrown into a starting role for the Rebels this year. Averaging 10 points and 3 rebounds while dishing out assists, Aden is well on his way to being a major player in the 12th region for the next 4 years.</li> <li><strong>Jerone Morton, George Rogers Clark - </strong>Morton has a chance to be really good and can be a future D1 prospect in this class. As a freshman he's averaging 6 points per game while playing crunch time minutes for the highly ranked Cardinal team. Morton reminds me of Northern Kentucky freshman Trevon Faulkner and has the same type of upside as a prospect.</li> <li><strong>Turner Buttry, Bowling Green - </strong>Buttry saw the floor a lot for Madison Southern last year but is now a part of the Purples and is thriving with the talent around him. With a deep roster, Turner isn't forced to hunt his offense and can focus on being a facilitator. Turner is averaging 6 points per game but is capable of more if he wanted to force the issue. Instead he's settling in as a floor general.</li> <li><strong>Jordan Akal, Harlan - </strong>Probably the highest scoring freshman in the state, Akal is averaging nearly 22 points per game while running the show for the Dragons. Akal is smaller but is very athletic and uses that ability to rebound over smaller players and push the pace on the offensive end. Akal is one to watch for the foreseeable future.</li> </ul>
