CyHoops Invitational: Championship Saturday

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">On the final day of the event consistency was key to success for teams. Some prospects had breakout games and others stayed consistent with their game from the start of the season. This is the 2nd year in a row that an DFW area team has been crowned champion. Here are the prospects from the Championship Game as well as other prospects who stood out on Championship Saturday. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lancaster Tigers Guard play was a bit to much for Cypress Springs Panthers. The final of the title game was 73-60 in favor of the Tigers.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="color: #ff6600;"><b>Mike Miles</b></span><b> 6’3 PG / 2020 / Lancaster </b><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Was able to take his man off the dribble every single time. Played solid on the defensive side of the ball. Has great strength for his size and position. He finished through contact at the rim every single time. He finished the game with 21 points. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><b><span style="color: #ff6600;">Marco Foster</span> 6’2 SG / 2020 / Lancaster</b><b><br /> </b><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Talk about a deep ball threat. Marco doesn’t get the credit that others get on his team but he keeps the floor spaced out for the Tigers. He was hitting nothing but the bottom of the net on his makes. He knocked down contested and uncontested threes is spurts of three in a row. He finished the game with 18 points and shot 6/9-3PT. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><b><span style="color: #ff6600;">Wade Taylor</span> 6’0 PG / 2021 / Lancaster</b><b><br /> </b><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Played to get his teammates involved. He attacked the lane. Finished in the lane as well as distributed the ball. He was able to break down his defender every time. He was very vocal on the court. This young prospect made sure everyone was in the right places. He finished the game with 15 points and 4 assist. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><b><span style="color: #ff6600;">Bonke Maring</span> 6’9 C / 2019 / Cypress Spring</b><b><br /> </b><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Played solid in the title game and every single game during the tourney. He was a walking double-double. He was a monster inside as they had no answer for him in the paint. He has gotten really strong since the summer. He was active on the glass grabbing 12 rebounds. He was altering shots and blocked 3 of them. He finished with 17 points.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><b><span style="color: #ff6600;">Davon Wright</span> 6’5 WG / 2020 / Cypress Spring</b><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Played very solid and is my 6th man of the tourney as he came off the bench every game. He plays with that slo-mo style of basketball. Finished well around the rim with both hands. Attacked the lane and used head fakes and shot fakes against his opponent. Brought a different style which opened up the game for him. He finished with 17 points in the game. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Other prospects that I seen on Championship Saturday who stood out in there games. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><b><span style="color: #ff6600;">Damian “DJ” Richards</span> 6’3 SG / 2021 / Cypress Creek</b><b><br /> </b><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">DJ played well on Saturday as he scored 8 points, 30 points, and then 14 points in the Consolation Title Game. He attacked the rim. Shot the ball well from behind the arc. He was able to get to the foul line where thrived and shot over 90% on the day. Had spurts defensively throughout all the games. Was definitely the big shot taker for his team.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><b><span style="color: #ff6600;">Ed Trahan</span> 6’3 WF / 2020 / Cypress Creek</b><b><br /> </b><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Plays the post for his HS team. He utilized his quickness to be affective on the low block. He played best when he caught the ball on the wing. Was able to size up his defender. Uses his triple threat moves to get to the basket. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><b><span style="color: #ff6600;">Cameron Maxwell</span> 5’11 PG / 2019 / Cypress Creek</b><b><br /> </b><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Cam shot the ball well. Played aggressive on defense. For his size he is very physical guard who can create his own shot. He was able to draw defenders as he attacked the lane. Nice strong crisp passes to his teammates on the perimeter. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><b><span style="color: #ff6600;">RJ Crawford</span> 6’2 SG / 2020 / Langham Creek</b><b><br /> </b><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">He had been cooking all Saturday. Shot the ball well as he has been all season long. On Saturday he scored 15, 27, and 22 points in the Consolation Title Game. He also went 4/6-3PT  in that game and shot 11/20-3PT on Saturday. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><b><span style="color: #ff6600;">Bronson Evans</span> 6’2 WF / 2019 / Langham Creek</b><b><br /> </b><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">He is a small forward that is utilized as combo forward for his HS team. Played solid defense and boxes out every time the ball goes up. He’s a prospect that’s not afraid to get in the mix and get dirty. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><b><span style="color: #ff6600;">Tre’Von Clay</span> 5’10 PG / 2021 / Langham Creek</b><b><br /> </b><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Quick floor general that gets to the second level of the defense every time. He played with great motor in the consolation title game. He was able to get his teammates involved in the game. He finished with 11 points and 5 assist.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><b><span style="color: #ff6600;">Nathan Clover</span> 6’8 PF / 2020 / Port Arthur Memorial </b><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Is coming off an cold that had him out the first game. In this game on saturday he showed up big time for his team against a 6’9 opponent. He was active on the glass bringing down 7 rebounds. He was altering shots and blocked 2 of them. He also finished with good moves from the post. Had good post control over his opponent and finished with 16 points.  </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><b><span style="color: #ff6600;">Jaden Conner</span> 6’1 G / 2019 / Port Arthur Memorial </b><b><br /> </b><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /> </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">This prospect came to play against Cy Springs. He was on my All-Tourney team. This was his only game in which he did not grab over double digit rebounds. He finished the game with 10 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assist, and 2 blocks. His average for the tourney was 15 ppg, 14 rpg, 4 apg, and 2 bpg.
