Kevon Harris Recruiting (2016)

Tuesday afternoon<strong> Kevon Harris</strong> (DME Academy) set his third official visit. Stephen F. Austin (TX) wants to add one more player to their 2016 class.  After signing two freshmen, <strong>Aaron Augustin</strong> (GA) and <strong>Samuli Nieminen</strong> (Finland) they have eyes on a wing out of Florida. Class of 2016 wing<strong> Kevon Harris</strong> is the top option for the Lumberjacks.  The Lumberjacks are coming off a tremendous season, sweeping through the Southland conference (18-0). The 28-win mark excited Augustin and many of the Texas-based recruits. "They dominate their conference and their goal is the NCAA tournament," said Augustin after signing.  "Not only get there but win games.  They were a rebound away from getting to Sweet 16.  That shows that they are progressing." Head Coach Keller learned the ropes under Kansas Head Coach Bill Self, and excelled recently recruiting for Texas A&amp;M. What kind of game does Stephen F. Austin's top remaining 2016 target bring to the floor? "Kevon is like a bulldog," said DME Academy Head Coach Chris Chaney.  "He is aggressive taking the ball to the basket." Perhaps the reason high major programs are jumping into the hunt is Harris is adding to his game. "His shot has improved a lot," said Coach Chaney.  "He has become a big threat from three-point range.  He can do a little bit of everything.  He is a small forward-type, but also a physical guard." <h2>Kevon Harris Recruitment</h2> Harris played AAU this past weekend in Atlanta.  So far he has visited two colleges officially.  This third official to Stephen F. Austin comes at a critical time.  More schools are circling in the waters.  He visited Utah State last week. The unsigned senior also took a visit to UT-Arlington. Judging by the upsurge this week, he will have some attractive options for his remaining official visits. "Georgia Tech has called," said Coach Chaney.  "Texas Tech.  LSU.  It is a situation where Kevon is not worried about the level.  He is worried about great fit." The Lumberjacks have a couple details favoring them, in this suddenly competitive recruitment.  The recently signed Augustin is helping recruit Harris to SFA.  More helpful though is that Coach Chaney has a professional friendship with SFA Head Coach Kyle Keller. "I go way back with Coach Keller," said Coach Chaney.  "I know his background.  We thought it would be a good situation.  So far, it has been good.  Kevon likes what he is hearing." Look for Harris to take a few days and see if the new interests morph into new offers.  No other official visits are set just yet. If and when those offers come, Harris will pounce. <h2>More DME Academy Prospects</h2> DME Academy made a big splash in the prep ranks this winter. "We finished 31-2," said Coach Chaney.  "We finished #6 prep team in the country." They lost in the quarterfinals of the postseason national prep tournament.  Several of their 2016 players are taking D1 visits this week. <strong>Jordan Oakley</strong> is wide open, but taking an America East Conference visit today.  NBA-legacy <strong>Connor Ferrell</strong> has a D1 visit set for Thursday.  Again he is still open, according to Coach Chaney.  <strong>Isaiah Reece</strong> is perusing the low major D1's and both <strong>David Stephen</strong> and <strong>Andrew Thomas</strong> are high-academic guys considering D2 or elite D3 programs.
