Recruiting Report: Maurico Tate (2017)

Certainly a top point guard in Ohio's 2017 class, Cleveland Westlake's Maurico Tate is heading into his 17U summer with a full head of steam, and some high-major Division I interest.   His range of interest right now is wide, from low-major to the high-major, and he's hoping to have his first scholarship offer it tow sooner rather than later.   “There's a couple new schools that have started recruiting me. Texas Christian, their coach was the Pittsburgh coach and he liked me a lot, and now he's at TCU. They're supposed to watch me play this summer. And Robert Morris, Boston College - I'm going to try and set up an unofficial there sometime (BC) this summer. Also I'm still hearing from Southeast Missouri State," said Tate.   “My recruitment is very important right now. That's my main goal is to get a scholarship to a school that best supports me. I think TCU and Robert Morris might be closest to offering.”   After averaging 15 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds per game during his junior season with the Demons, Tate says it was his jump-shot that developed most, and his athleticism.   “I've developed my jump-shot a lot, actually. Being able to knock down wide-open shots and create my own shots,” said Tate. “And also rebounding, and athleticism - my vertical has increased tremendously.”   PHO's 28th-ranked 2017, Tate will spend his 17U summer with All-Ohio after playing with Ohio Basketball Club last offseason.   “It was just a better opportunity for me, so I could have a bigger role on the team,” he said.   “I have a couple goals. One is to get a scholarship, that's the main goal, so I don't have to pay for college. And my role on the team is to be a scorer, they need me to bring that to the table every game.”
