CP3 Rising Stars National Camp: Superlative Awards (Spartans)

Winston-Salem, NC — The 14th annual CP3 Rising Stars National Camp brought Class of 2030 prospects from across the country to Winston-Salem for three days of skill work and competitive play. Players were tested through station work before moving into five-on-five action, giving our staff an opportunity to evaluate their individual abilities within a team setting. The camp offered a strong look at how each prospect approached the game on both ends of the floor while competing against talented players from around the country. Continuing our team-by-team coverage, we turn our attention to the Spartans and several players who put together quality performances at the event... Dylan DeRice used his athleticism to his advantage on both ends of the floor at the CP3 Rising Stars National Camp. He was a tough cover offensively, using his quickness and explosiveness to get downhill, attack the basket and create scoring opportunities. DeRice also applied those physical tools defensively, where he had the ability to stay with his assignment and cover ground quickly. His athleticism allowed him to make plays in transition and add another element to his team's attack. His physical tools gave him several ways to impact the game. Carter Abrahams displayed an advanced handle at the CP3 Rising Stars National Camp and consistently looked comfortable creating with the basketball. He saw the floor well and recognized openings in the defense, allowing him to make timely reads as possessions developed. Abrahams used his handle to navigate pressure, change direction and work his way into spots where he could create for others. His combination of ball control and court vision gave him a strong presence with the ball in his hands. Freddy Bopanzi provided a strong defensive presence at the CP3 Rising Stars National Camp, using his size and height to protect the paint. He challenged shots around the basket and made opponents work for clean finishes when attacking the rim. Bopanzi covered space well inside and used his physical tools to alter attempts even when he did not come away with the block. He stayed active around the basket and was willing to contest anything that entered his area. His length also allowed him to recover and affect plays after initially being pulled away from the rim. Bopanzi's rim protection gave his team a valuable defensive presence on the interior. Antwan Short Jr. controlled the glass at a high level during the CP3 Rising Stars National Camp, consistently finishing possessions with rebounds on the defensive end while creating extra opportunities offensively. He tracked the ball well off the rim and put himself in favorable position to secure rebounds in traffic. Short displayed strong hands, rarely allowing the basketball to get away from him once he made contact with it. His work on both ends made rebounding one of the strongest areas of his game. He consistently gave his team an advantage with his production on the boards. Nickson Jean-Baptiste displayed an advanced scoring package at the CP3 Rising Stars National Camp, producing offense from all three levels. He was comfortable creating opportunities around the basket, in the midrange and from behind the arc, giving defenders several different looks to account for. Jean-Baptiste found ways to generate quality attempts and converted at a consistent rate when opportunities were available. His versatility as a scorer made him difficult to scheme against, as he was not limited to one area of the floor. His offensive skill set was a major part of his production at the event. Davont Jackson Jr. consistently made plays that contributed to winning basketball at the CP3 Rising Stars National Camp. He impacted possessions on both ends of the floor, finding ways to contribute without needing the basketball in his hands. Jackson played with good awareness, made smart decisions and was willing to do the smaller things that helped his team. He competed defensively, contributed offensively and rarely forced the action. His ability to affect different areas of the game gave his team quality minutes whenever he was on the floor. Stay tuned for more from Coast 2 Coast Preps!
