Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase - Team 1 Evaluations

There are many great days across the busy Indiana High School Basketball schedule. However, few compare to our annual Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase and Prep Hoops Indiana Sophomore ID Camp. On Sunday, September 6th at the Noblesville Boys & Girls Club we hosted nearly 250 of the best underclassmen in the state. Over the next couple of weeks we will be posting individual evaluations of every prospect in attendance, highlighting top performers, introducing new names, and much more. Here are the evaluations for the prospects comprising Team 1 at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase.   ***As you can imagine, with nearly 250 prospects, we are bound to miss someone. If your team's evaluation article gets posted and you were NOT included please connect with Brandon Ramsey on Twitter or via email at coachbrandonramsey@gmail.com and he will take care of the mistake.***   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />    We highlighted Lucas as a "new emerging name" following his strong play at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase. The 5'8" point guard from Castle High School quickly put his ball handling and passing abilities on display in 5-on-5 play. He consistently threw the hit ahead pass in transition to start the break, made good decisions off of two feet at the end of his drives, and was an all-around reliable lead guard for his team. Lucas will definitely be one to follow in the coming years down in the greater Evansville area.     This 5'7" point guard was fearless as a driver in both 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 play on Sunday. Patton, a freshman at North Central High School, was certainly not afraid to attack the paint and play amongst the trees at the end of his drives. He did a great job of passing the ball back out to the perimeter for inside-out three-point shots or finding a big man for a dump off pass inside. Patton was a consistent distributor for his team at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase.     Team 1 had a handful of smaller guards who shared the ball handling duties with Malik being one of them. The 5'6" point guard from Herron Riverside High School first caught our attention with his willingness to stick his nose into the defensive rebounding effort. He did a great job of cracking down and rebounding from the perimeter and then moving the ball ahead quickly to get his team out in transition. We enjoyed getting to have him at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase.     Despite a bit of a log jam amongst 5'7" point guards in the Team 1 backcourt, Taylor found his footing and still stood out in different ways. He consistently ran the floor hard in transition which resulted in a couple of layups for him. Taylor also was one of the several guards capable of starting the break himself as a ball handler. The South Bend Adams High School freshman is quick with the ball in his hands and was consistently involved in the action at both ends of the floor at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase.     It can be hard to find ways to fit into a 5-on-5 team on short notice and stand out when there are so many other players like you. Team 1 was stacked with 5'6"-5'8" point guards, but Graber was one who was able to showcase his ball handling and passing abilities consistently. He was able to attack downhill in the half court, used ball screens well, and was active on the ball as a defender. One of two North Central guards on this team, Graber was fun to watch at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase.     Archer found success in both 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 by catching it on the perimeter and driving it hard to his right hand. He displayed a quick first step and enough strength to absorb some contact off of the dribble and finish at the end of his drives. We saw him attack downhill to his right and finish a couple of layups in the game we watched. The West Lafayette High School guard played well at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase.     There is a lot of talent coming through the system right now at Austin High School and we had a few of their young prospects in the gym on Sunday. Shuler, an athletically built 5'11" guard, had success as a playmaker in both 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 play at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase. He was able to get paint touches off of the bounce, find open teammates, and look to score when the opportunity presented itself.     We quickly identified Thomas as one of the most talented guards at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase. The 5'11" playmaker made multiple drives to basket and consistently displayed athletic, creative finishing ability. His ability to get to the paint off of the dribble and serve as both a scoring threat and playmaker made him very valuable to Team 1. Thomas was not a prospect we were very familiar with going into Sunday's event, but we left considering him a likely Top 25 prospect in the class.     One of two prospects from Castle High School on Team 1, Carlisle was the biggest player on the team despite still being more of a guard. He has good positional size at 6'2" and he used that to his advantage scoring off of cuts, finishing putbacks, and playing through contact at the end of his drives. Emerson was effective as a cutter and consistently crashed the glass helping to create extra possessions. He will be one to follow in the coming years down in the Evansville area.
