Olpe/KC Spurs guard Brecken McGuire talks Summer Basketball

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Six-foot-1 all state guard Brecken McGruire gave his team 23 plus points a game last winter shooting 47 percent from the field with four steals and over four boards a contest. McGuire then played with the [program_tooltip program_id='2078406' first='KC' last='Spurs'] this summer and had another great experience. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>"I thought (the 17u season) went good especially once we started clicking together," Brecken explained. "I really liked my teammates and coaches which made practice and tourneys fun. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>"Traveling on the NIKE circuit has been a great experience the past three seasons. I thought we competed as a whole. We played well in Vegas. We beat some teams who have beat us in the past so that was a good feeling. I also thought we played well at the KC Classic in May."</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In one of the last Kansas City events that McGuire played in with the Spurs, Brecken scored 15.5 points a game with 6.3 rebounds a contest. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Now that the spring/summer season is done, and there are months before the winter season, Brecken has a plan for the fall. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>"Getting stronger and gaining weight is definitely a goal," Brecken said. "That will help my game this senior year and playing at the next level. I will continue to get reps in the gym and I also play football so we start that next week."</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>McGuire is also looking into playing basketball at the next level.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>"I have an offer from Bethany. I had a great camp at Newman's and will be getting on campus again soon. I am talking to several coaches across the DII, JUCO, &amp; NAIA levels and I will be getting on their campuses this fall when their players are back on campus."</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>As colleges continue to recruit Brecken, what type of player could the be getting for the next level?</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>"I would say I like to play at a high tempo. Get up and down," McGuire said. "I have range and like to go to my mid range jumper but can also get paint touches. I see the floor well and find my open teammates. I like to bring defensive pressure and score off of that."</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
