Recruiting Report: Jeremiah Keene (2019)
With three Division I offers already under his belt, 6’0” Westerville North point guard Jeremiah Keene (2019) has an important summer ahead of him with Nova (James).
“[Coach Andreas James] told me at the beginning of the AAU season that it was a going to be on me. So I have to come prepared for every game, play hard, and lead the team,” Keene said.
Keene played with OH-NOVA’s 17U Tillman team last season during the summer. That level of experience has afforded some trust from this year’s coaching staff.
The senior-to-be reciprocates that trust with his playmaking ability and poise.
“I can score and I can pass. I like to get my teammates involved a lot. I can really shoot it. I create easy looks for my guys. I like playing with bigs and big wings that can shoot,” Keene explained.
To improve, Keene is paying extra attention to help-side defense this summer. He believes he could raise his game on that side of the floor by becoming a more consistent defender.
Regardless, he already has a ton of colleges tracking him during the Live Period, including those who have offered him — Kent State, Stony Brook, and UT-Martin.
“I still talk to all of those schools,” Keene said.
Kent State and Stony Brook are in most frequent communication between the three. He’s even been on two visits to Kent State, one for a football game and another for a basketball game.
However, those programs could have a lot of competition in landing Keene by the end of the summer if he continues to play well on the adidas Gauntlet Silver. He lead Nova to a final four appearance in Indianapolis last weekend and had plenty of schools tracking him.
“Miami was there, OU, Furman, Wofford, Toledo,” Keene said.
Keene has only visited Kent State and doesn’t have any campus trips scheduled for the spring currently. The floor general is “trying to see where it goes this spring” and will try to identify a good fit when the time comes.
He explained what “fit” means to him, saying, “Just being comfortable around my teammates, and my coaches, and people I trust.”
Keene currently carries a 2.9 GPA and scored an 18 on his first ACT attempt.
Coaches can watch Keene in Indianapolis again this weekend, as they continue to compete on the Silver Circuit. They’ll also play in Fort Wayne, Columbus, and Chicago this spring.
