20p 3r 3a 4s (7/12 FG 3/6 3P 3/4 FT) vs DCI

-Bontzolakes is a pretty safe bet to make a nice jump in our next set of updated rankings after putting on a very balanced performance in a win over DCI. He has a smooth handle and a good change of tempo with the ball in his hands as a skilled G prospect that can operate effectively in a crowded paint era or in spread offense possessions. He scored off a double crossover into the and1 bump n lay off the window, hit a couple turn-around and touch shots in the paint, and knocked down a trio of threes in the 2H that blew the game open. A good live dribble passer with either hand, I liked that he didn’t force the action as a guard that knows where he wants to go with the ball but also has the skill to improvise/react to both the on or off-ball defenders. Excited to see him again this summer to get a better feel for long-term fit/level, but there is enough skill here with good positional size to feel optimistic about his long-term potential.

It’s easy to appreciate the intelligent, balanced way that Bontzolakes played on or off the ball. He’s a crafty, unselfish combo guard who simply knows how to dictate the action as the primary creator. Bontzolakes does a terrific job of breaking down opponents and navigating where he wants off the bounce. He sees the floor extremely well so that he’s able to evade extra defenders and quickly locate the best available shot on a regular basis. Bontzolakes consistently got others involved, but elevated his scoring as needed late in the game, scoring 16 points, knocking down three 3’s. He also defended with energy and rebounded well for his size. This young man has a lot of potential to be a college level prospect with continued growth in his game.
