Team Spotlight: Greenwood Christian Academy

When I watch this team play, I think of the kids book " The Little Giants." The majority of kids on this roster are miniature players. Despite their size, these young men play with heart and determination. With a host of play makers and shooters, Greenwood Christian Academy could make some noise this season.    Jacob continues to show his skills as a great overall player on the basketball court. Over the summer I watched a player who handled the ball, scored in the post, grabbed rebounds, knocked down threes and defended. In Wednesday's game he came out with less energy but gave maximum effort, despite his team being over-matched. On some occasions he handled the ball and set up his team's offensive sets. Whenever Jacob played the point center position, he often found his teammates for high percentage shots. He continues to show the ability to score around the basket or knock down perimeter jump-shots. In my opinion, Jacob will have a great season as the teams' number one option. Greenwood Christian Academy had a tough loss that I believe they can learn from. With Jacob leading the way, I believe this squad could upset many teams en route to a successful season.         Caleb is a good player who does everything on the basketball court. Whether it's scoring, assisting, rebounding or defending, Caleb was constantly around the basketball. He's a natural play-maker who can succeed at playing either guard spot. Caleb led Greenwood Christian Academy in assists. He started the game by making sure all his teammates were involved offensively. As the game went on, Caleb picked up his scoring by becoming more aggressive. He's great at breaking down defenders, getting into the lane and scoring tough baskets. Caleb is a good rebounding guard who had no problem battling opposing players in the paint. On defense, he excelled at forcing turnovers. A number of his steals led to transition scores for other Greenwood Christian Academy players. Caleb is a tough minded guard who has a bright future ahead of him.     Sam is a good all-around player. He showed the ability to make plays everywhere on the court. Whether it was scoring, rebounding, passing or defending, Sam always found his way around the basketball. He's an excellent defender who showed a knack for generating turnovers. Sam finished the game with three steals. Rebounding was also a strong part of his game at the guard position. He had no problem attacking the glass on both ends of the court. Sam excelled at driving by opposing players for scores in the paint. He is a hardworking guard who gives maximum effort on offense and defense. Keep working Sam!!     Max is a hardworking player who gives his all on the basketball court. He plays hard on either side of the floor. Offensively, he shot the ball extremely well from mid-range. In the game against Franklin Community, Max knocked down multiple shots from the perimeter. He also found ways to attack the basket. Max showed his prowess as a rebounder by attacking the boards on offense and defense. Max had no problems fighting for rebounds despite being smaller than his opponents. On defense, Max was great at applying pressure to opposing players. His tenacity forced numerous turnovers from the opposition. Max is a talented player who has a bright future. Keep it up Max!!     He's a great ball handler, leader and assists man. Braxton made an instant impact as soon as he stepped on the court. He entered the game communicating, assisting and defending. Braxton excelled at making his teammates better with efficient passes. Most of his assists were on the money. Whenever he attacked the lane, he looked to draw in defenders and dish off passes to others around the basket. His shot of choice was the runner down the lane. Some he converted some he did not. Defensively, he was tough! Braxton stalked opposing guards by using quick hands and excellent timing. He forced two turnovers and made ball handling difficult for opposing players. Braxton is a great leader who will thrive during the season.
