The month of September provides a key chance for High Schools to get back to work and display their prospects to College Coaches. This week, I will be in Charleston, South Carolina, to visit an open practice for some of the best schools in the area. Check out this deep dive into Berkeley High School, featuring notes on their top players and what could be in store for the team as a whole in 2025-26:

Open Practice Evaluations:

[player_tooltip player_id='2905346' first='Omega' last='Greene'] - First up on my open practice evaluations is [player_tooltip player_id='2905346' first='Omega' last='Greene']. I recently became familiar with Greene during the Film Room Series, but he left another positive impression on me in person today. Omega was bright in early drills, excelling with his ball-handling and finishing. He keeps the ball low when making moves, is calm at high speeds, and is strong through contact in the air. He also brought some intensity by chasing long rebounds and getting on the floor for loose balls.

[player_tooltip player_id='2866880' first='Jamaal' last='Anderson Jr'] - Another Berkeley Guard that caught my eye on Tuesday is Anderson Jr. He, too, made good plays in 1-on-1 drills and set the tone for the rest of the team through his hustle. Jamaal is very bouncy, which gives him an advantage around the rim on both ends of the floor. He can also finish at the rim with his craftiness. Anderson was one of the most productive players during their shooting drill, knocking down 28 3s in two minutes.

[player_tooltip player_id='2971079' first='Trevino' last='Reid'] - Trevino will be a key contributor in the post for the Stags in 2025-26. He is the most experienced player available right now, and averaged 4.6 points per game and 2.2 rebounds per game in 25 games last season. The Senior is an effective rebounder on both sides of the glass and is a decent post scorer, particularly in this setting where he can get mismatches and work quickly.

[player_tooltip player_id='2971037' first='Jamier' last='Brown'] - Brown is an intriguing prospect for this group who is beginning to stack good days. He is listed at 6'4" and is a true Wing with a well-rounded game. He was efficient with his touches early on in the day, using his length to finish at the rim, as well as a combination of that length and good instincts to protect the rim. Jamier will have a big impact on this team because he has the ability to knock down shots and attack closeouts to get to his spots in the mid-range or the paint.

[player_tooltip player_id='2971033' first='Jayce' last='Watson'] - Rounding out this list is a guy who might not be on Varsity this year, but does have an extremely bright future. Jayce was on JV as an 8th Grader last season, but was able to fit in with some of the older players at practice on Tuesday because of his extreme length. He effects shots around the rim and will block a jump shot or two. However, there is some offensive skill with Watson, as he knocked down 20+ threes in a shooting drill twice; it's just a matter of in-game consistency and filling out physically.

Team Takeaway:

While the Stags were down their three ranked prospects ([player_tooltip player_id='1731675' first='John' last='Cleveland'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2425411' first='Jordan' last='Livingston'] to Football, [player_tooltip player_id='1414724' first='Deuce' last='Kinloch'] to injury), it was still a very productive day of work on Tuesday. The season-long outlook for Kinloch isn't great, but he does have hopes of returning at some point this season and will be a terrific teammate until that time. Junior Wing [player_tooltip player_id='2971037' first='Jamier' last='Brown'] will need to step up in Deuce's absence alongside some decent frontcourt size in Justin Suarez, [player_tooltip player_id='2971079' first='Trevino' last='Reid'], and Livingston. I expect good things from the Guard duo of [player_tooltip player_id='2905346' first='Omega' last='Greene'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2866880' first='Jamaal' last='Anderson Jr'], who are somewhat interchangeable and will make lots of plays. Finally, the future of Berkeley Basketball is just as bright as the present in the form of [player_tooltip player_id='2971033' first='Jayce' last='Watson'], who will be a key contributor down the line.
