LONG BEACH — The Pangos All-West Frosh/Soph Camp brought together 129 underclass players from nine different states to McBride high school for a two-day showcase event. There was a strong mix of guards, wings and bigs to keep a close eye on over the next 3-to-4 years. Below we detail the top point guards we watched Saturday and in the Top 30 and Top 60 games.

[player_tooltip player_id='2750200' first='Aiden' last='Shaw'] | 2028 | Bishop Amat

Shaw brought his true point guard mindset to an event that often trends toward players looking to get their own baskets. The 6-foot-1 sophomore was a pass-first, set-up guy in the games that we watched and consistently tried to make the right play instead of forcing a bad shots for himself. Shaw operates with a smooth pace, smart and savvy ball handling and his open court speed with the ball allowed him to earn paint touches with ease.

Bre'vynn Johnson | 2029 | Bishop Gorman (NV)

Johnson was perhaps the most explosive basketball athlete in the gym over the weekend. The 6-foot incoming freshman already possesses the frame to hold his own against high level varsity players and that physicality, combined with his athleticism was often too much for opponents to deal with. Johnson was a blur in transition, used a quick first step to get by defenders in isolation and was able to finish around the rim through contact or with a quick elevation over the top of rim protectors.

Brice Yancey | 2028 | Cardinal Hayes (NY)

Yancey had that isolation breakdown ability that most New York guards are built with. The 6-foot sophomore had the ball on a string, used shifty hesitations, changes of speed and direction to get his defender off balance to set up his drive and finish or drive and pull-up jumper. Yancey was aggressive when looking to score the ball in transition and used his vision and feel to weave his way through the defense and score craftily around the basket. He also showed flashes of feel and basketball IQ when finding teammates.

[player_tooltip player_id='2767780' first='Phillip' last='Reed'] | 2029 | Palisades

Reed plays the game like a seasoned veteran and will be an immediate impact player for Palisades this season. The 6-foot-2 freshman has a sturdily-built frame which lends to his tendency to power his way to the rim through contact and generate and finish high percentage looks. Reed is also a consistent three-point shooter off the catch and off the bounce which makes him a versatile offensive threat. While he wasn't the quickest, fastest or shiftiest player in the gym, his smooth pace, simple movements and efficient scoring package was what stood out the most.

[player_tooltip player_id='2820407' first='Quali' last='Giran'] | 2029 | Millikan

Giran's feel for the game is well beyond his years. The incoming freshman at Long Beach Millikan toys with defenders with his combination of feel, basketball IQ and burst off the dribble. The 6-footer is a savvy ball-screen creator and decision-maker, manipulates defenders with his pace and eyes and always seems to strike a good balance of scoring and distributing. Giran is a multi-faceted offensive weapon when it comes to scoring, passing and making smart decisions and reads in various actions and settings.

Quaran Johnson | 2029 | Granada

Johnson proved that size didn't matter in this underclass focused event as the 5-foot-8 freshman impressed with his speed, shiftiness and ability to diagnose when to create and when to look for his own shot. Johnson's confident and tight handle, along with his lightning quick change of speed and direction kept defenders guessing his next move and opened up paint touch opportunities. On those drives, Johnson showed a balanced pull-up jumper with smooth shooting mechanics and the willingness to turn down a decent shot to create a better one for a teammate.

RJ Ball | 2028 | Beverly Hills

Ball brought a great leadership and calming presence to his team and I thought he did a stellar job of orchestrating and generating good offensive looks for himself and his teammates throughout the event. The 6-foot-3 sophomore has a long, wiry frame, operates with a smooth pace and a quick-twitch change of speed when driving by his defender. What stood out most about Ball's game was his ability to quickly process the floor and make the correct and timely decision/pass to create an advantage or scoring opportunity.

[player_tooltip player_id='2484360' first='Tayshaun' last='Bozeman'] | 2028 | Salesian College Prep

Bozeman is a dynamic scorer in transition and half-court offensive settings. On the break, the 6-foot-1 sophomore used his speed to put defenders on their heels and his ability to change direction quickly to attack angles to earn paint touches and score at the rim. In half-court settings Bozeman has an innate ability to create space from defenders on the perimeter and knock down mid-range and three-point shots off the bounce.
