-Loved the way that Johnson mixes in different looks at the rim when he’s in the midst of a personal scoring run. Johnson can hit a few perimeter jumpers in a row but is fully capable of ducking under hard closeouts to kill his opponent with midrange jumpers or floaters. The shot diet is consistent but doesn’t get in the way of him play-making for others in the halfcourt either. His ability to snatch a crossover back and set himself up for smooth pull-up Js off the bounce adds in another element that makes him difficult to defend.

-Johnson has proven his value this summer as a scoring guard that can really fill it up in spurts. Love his first step as he’s a point guard that creates the advantage off the bounce and keeps the advantage by either keeping his defender in jail behind him or exploding to the rim to finish past the defense. Johnson also has showed great touch around the basket as well as from 8′ and in with a nice array of floaters with either hand off of one or two feet. The senior guard’s midrange pull-up also makes it really difficult for his defender to go all-out in stopping his drives to the basket.

-Johnson got off to a scorching hot start, scoring 6 points in the first 90 seconds of game play to set the tone for his performance. He ripped away two steals and converted them into points at the other end, recovered well to block two shots at the rim, blocked a 3 point jumper without fouling because of a great closeout, hit pull-up jumpers, and got to the rim with ease. He has a deceptively-quick first step and does a great job of lulling the defender to sleep with rhythmic dribbling before crossing over and getting downhill to the rim. Loved his decision-making in tight spaces as he is a really difficult guard to stay in front of and stops so quickly on drives for pull-ups that his matchup usually had a difficult time reacting to contest the shot.
